[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hi, I'm Stan.
[00:00:02] Speaker B: And I'm Shen.
[00:00:03] Speaker A: And each week we bring you the Stan and Shen Show.
And each week, we talk about fun things through our travels throughout the capital region. We touch on food, we touch on news, try to touch heavily on good news. And Shen's always available with hot takes.
[00:00:20] Speaker B: Yeah. So if you could follow along and listen to us every week on DailyGazette.com or on all major streaming platforms, we'd love to have you join us.
[00:00:29] Speaker A: Tv all right, now, I just been chastised for not bringing the co host coffee on her first appearance back at 2345 Maxon Road in the Daily Gazette podcast studio.
As a guest. As a guest.
[00:00:43] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:00:43] Speaker B: And the guests get little waters. And I left you a mini fridge.
[00:00:48] Speaker A: For set, which we took to the debate, and I don't think got refilled. And do you have your visitors past, Ness?
[00:00:54] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:00:55] Speaker B: You took the little fridge to the debate? That's my fridge.
[00:00:58] Speaker A: Well, no, we took the water from the fridge, and I don't think I made it.
[00:01:02] Speaker B: There's water underneath my former desk.
[00:01:04] Speaker A: I will after this. I will go do that.
[00:01:07] Speaker B: It's just disappointing is all I'm saying.
[00:01:08] Speaker A: Okay. You're not mad.
[00:01:10] Speaker B: I'm just disappointed.
[00:01:11] Speaker A: All right.
And she's back. She's actually back in the Daily Gazette podcast studio.
[00:01:17] Speaker B: Nothing has changed. And apparently they just let anybody walk in the doors.
[00:01:21] Speaker A: You just walked in, waved to Lisa, and just came upstairs.
[00:01:23] Speaker B: I just waved to Lisa. She was like, oh, my God. Hugged her chit, chatted for a minute, walked up the stairs, was like, hello, everybody. I'm back.
They've rehired me. Surprise, surprise.
Let the chaos ensue.
I left fire in my wake.
[00:01:42] Speaker A: We saw each other on Saturday.
[00:01:44] Speaker B: We did.
[00:01:45] Speaker A: So you didn't chicken out?
[00:01:47] Speaker B: No, no, no. I was losing my head.
[00:01:50] Speaker A: Instead, you were running like a chick with your head cut off.
[00:01:53] Speaker B: Yes. You saw me.
[00:01:55] Speaker A: You were gassed by the end.
[00:01:56] Speaker B: Yeah, I was.
I was ready.
[00:02:00] Speaker A: So what we're talking about, in case you missed the last podcast, was the annual Schenectady wing walk.
[00:02:06] Speaker B: Correct.
[00:02:07] Speaker A: Which was fant. Sold out super fast.
[00:02:11] Speaker B: Mm.
[00:02:12] Speaker A: Had you couldn't have gotten better weather maybe a little cooler, but overall.
[00:02:17] Speaker B: Yeah. Next year, if we could just go a little bit cooler, Mother Nature, that'd be great. Keep the sun a little bit cooler, though.
[00:02:23] Speaker A: Yeah, it was tremendous.
[00:02:26] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, I talked to a lot of people. A lot of people had fun. We got a lot of good feedback.
We got some other feedback that we're gonna be discussing at Future meetings and definitely keeping in mind as we planned next year's.
But overall it was good response from people.
[00:02:44] Speaker A: So you're frontline, you got the votes.
You got to see them coming in. You're like, you're like, you're like election desk central.
[00:02:54] Speaker B: Well, I mean, we weren't, we weren't watching. No.
[00:02:57] Speaker A: But I'm just saying when it's like you push, you open up the document.
[00:03:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:01] Speaker A: And boom. Yeah, there it is.
[00:03:03] Speaker B: Yep. Yeah. I mean, so very easy to read when we open it up, the responses. And I mean, I'm gonna be totally. I'm not that surprised that Simone's did as well as it did.
[00:03:16] Speaker A: Did you get to try? I didn't get a chance to try.
[00:03:18] Speaker B: I did not. I only did three wings that day because I just. There was a lot going on. I don't think people realize how much goes on behind the scenes.
The amount of effort and work it takes to put this in and then promote it throughout the day and then when there are little fires that pop up that you got to go put out.
So it was a lot. I only tried three. I couldn't even really tell you who they were off the top of my head. Not because they weren't good, but just because my brain's already on to the next thing we're planning for.
So, I mean, just, it was good. It was a, it was a nice light hearted day. We had no incidents.
You know, it was fun. I think our biggest complaint is always this is trash cans. I would like to remind people that those labeled DSIC are the ones that we are allowed to touch.
The little green cans are the cities. That is a union job.
[00:04:15] Speaker A: It's a Saturday.
[00:04:16] Speaker B: It's a Saturday.
[00:04:17] Speaker A: We can't give you a chance that.
[00:04:20] Speaker B: So just keep this in mind for our future events to, you know, just try and use the DSIC trash cans. Just because those are ones we, we will take care of and you'll see our people out and about doing that. Shout out to our people from Saturday. Absolutely fantastic job keeping up on the trash and then cleaning up afterward. Although I will say also thank you to people for putting trash in the trash cans.
[00:04:43] Speaker A: The takeaways lines moved. I mean, there were lines, but they moved.
[00:04:47] Speaker B: Yeah. The biggest compliment compliment we got was the extra hour we added which really gave people a lot of time to get through lines. And you know, someone did point out ember and cork was a little bit, you know, they were kind of longer. Also their first time participating in this. So it's new for them to do so, you know, we hope that they participate next year and everybody finesses and finesses and finesses.
But yeah, I mean, like Simone's, which is typically a very long line and was in the beginning because they are very popular and they really know how to sell themselves. Even they would like get to a point where it really gets small, small again and then it get back to being big again and get small again and they like, I mean, they had that line going. They had like several people out working this station, including one person just going down the line and marking people off. I think that's what kind of kept them moving and why so many people got to try their, their wings.
But yeah, just shout out to our restaurants in general.
You know, they, the staff at all the locations work really, really hard to make this the best event and, and hopefully you guys realize that. Recognize that and head back to some of your favorite places.
There are a few of them that we have heard or seen posts that they're either gonna already putting this wing on their menu or thinking about it or in Simone's case is apparently gonna roll it out, even though that, that's wings aren't really a thing that they do. So I'm excited about that. We'll be, we'll be looking for that. But like 20 north talking about putting the Bada Bing wing on their menu, which we're selfishly, highly recommending they do so that we can go eat them. Shout out to 20 north because it's one of my favorite wing locations.
So yeah, so, you know, just generally just an overall, like great experience. Loved all the different places that had music and good vibes going and not surprised that Yaya's one is going to take home, which we did not announce. So just best atmosphere to go to Yaya's. No surprise there. They always get a DJ and they always get good vibes going and it's always a party down there.
So yeah, so I mean, just overall fantastic event.
It's, you know, afterward Maureen said I'm officially part of DSIC now, so there's no getting me back Gazette.
I'm taken and spoken for now.
[00:07:16] Speaker A: Okay. Finally some prayers get answered.
So being on the other side and being in the data center and I know this isn't released, so I'm not going to ask you that.
But when you pop open the document and then you see the data, were you amazed at how many people voted?
[00:07:41] Speaker B: Yeah, so, I mean, it is a lot. And you know, not everybody who participates in the wing walk does vote So I think we had over 1300, which is really good, considering it's a 2,500.
[00:07:54] Speaker A: Yes. 2500 tickets. You get 1,500 votes.
[00:07:57] Speaker B: Yeah. So, you know, we do really well, and it's.
But it is always intriguing to see who. How people vote.
And I would like to note that, like, because we did get a couple comments. And, you know, I always want to talk about. This is.
The judges this year are great people, and I would just like to state that they're gonna have different opinions than everybody else. You know, people's choices is done by the 1300 people that vote. The judges have their own taste buds, their own likes. Dislikes, and. And that's okay. That's. That's what makes this event so great and so unique and, you know, lets them have, you know, their. Their own opinions.
And, you know, I just want to put that out there because I did see some comments where people were like, who are these judges? You know, why do they vote this way? Or the judges picks? And then like, that emoji where it's like, Eric, they did it wrong. And it's like, there is no wrong voting here. This is all on your taste buds. Whatever you like. Some people are gonna like things that you don't like, and that's what makes this a beautiful thing.
[00:09:04] Speaker A: Right? And the. The fact was, you and I were.
[00:09:07] Speaker B: Judges for Soup Stroll, and it is hard.
[00:09:09] Speaker A: And we differed. We didn't go. We didn't agree on.
[00:09:12] Speaker B: No, no, we did not.
[00:09:14] Speaker A: Yeah, but it's two different.
[00:09:16] Speaker B: Yeah. Different tastes and people who come from two different walks of life. Like, there are certain things that, you know, you might see. Yeah.
[00:09:25] Speaker A: The cold you like. The meaty you like. The stewie you like. The unique you like the. You know, it's. It's going out to dinner. Not everybody gets the same plate at the table.
[00:09:35] Speaker B: And shouldn't we be so thankful that there is such a variety of food in our world that we have an opportunity to try all these different things and hear people's opinions on what they liked and didn't like?
So I just. I do want to note that. And again, shout out to our judges, one from pioneer, Claudia Crystal from Rivers, and then Ben, who was our. Our third judge there, who is from Downtown Custom Printwear. Who does our. Who does our shirts? Also, shout out to the guy who created our shirts, who we did see on the way. Kevin.
Kevin W. Who knows I can't pronounce his last name. Who. When I saw him and I said, hey, Kevin, I can't I said, kevin, I'm not even trying to pronounce your last name. He goes, cool. Great. Because if you say it, say it wrong, you might conjure something. That's what he told me. So love his attitude and his spirit and seeing his family out and about.
[00:10:30] Speaker A: Trying T shirt was the bomb.
[00:10:31] Speaker B: It really was. It was, it was funny. It was a great color, you know, so it was just, overall was a good event. But I just, I do want to note some of those things because, you know, I, I've seen the comments. I read the comments.
You know, we take all of these things that people say not to like heart, but like we, you know, we, we track these things so that we can be, you know, bigger and better next year. So just keep that in mind. You know, we're an organization of a, of a handful of people. You've seen how big we are. There's three people in our office on a, at max, on a daily basis. And you gotta imagine that putting something like this on is very difficult. And I kind of, you know, was thrown into the deep end when I first, first got in and a lot of the work had, A lot of the work had been done already.
You know, God bless Maureen and Gail at the office.
But, you know, I think people don't get to see that side of it. So they don't really understand just how difficult these things are to put on.
But we're also excited and happy to put these things on because we get to see our community members trying all the same places that we love.
[00:11:39] Speaker A: Favorite comment.
[00:11:42] Speaker B: Are you trying to hint at your Stan?
[00:11:44] Speaker A: Well, I had to remind you that.
[00:11:47] Speaker B: I don't have it word for word off the top of my head, but whatever Stan's comment was, I'm apparently being peer pressured into saying my favorite comment was Stan's.
I have no, I want. I knew I have no comments on the comments. Further.
[00:12:00] Speaker A: Okay, look, I'm.
[00:12:01] Speaker B: No further.
[00:12:01] Speaker A: Most of your press releases shouldn't throw a. Berer has no comment on. But anyway, so I know what it's like to get, you know, we see the Facebook as, you know, from the biz. You see the Facebook posts and you see the snark and stuff like that, it's going to happen. So I was trying to just throw something in their light that I knew I would stand out.
But also, like when you're looking at them and you're going through the, the, the grumbles and rumbles and stuff like that. So I put, I threw in on my comment. I wrote in schenectes new dynamic duo Maureen and Shen. So. Or Shenandoah. I put. I did the proper. Um, that's done.
And then you had to be back to work Monday, which was so surprising because you had to work a Saturday. So I knew from past experience it.
[00:12:46] Speaker B: Was a little rough.
[00:12:47] Speaker A: A little rough. So the one question I had when I saw you on Monday was, did you prep chicken on Sunday?
[00:12:53] Speaker B: I did.
[00:12:55] Speaker A: Because you only had a couple. You only had three chickens.
But I'm just. My vote. And I think we, we really like the Nest.
Or, excuse me, Mila's.
[00:13:04] Speaker B: Yeah, that was, that was one of the ones I did try. That was phenomenal.
[00:13:08] Speaker A: Yeah, Mo came through on that one. And I wrote a preview about the Nest and Mila's. And the Nest won the golden chicken last year.
[00:13:16] Speaker B: So Mo from and Mila's, if I'm not mistaken, second and third.
[00:13:20] Speaker A: They placed in two different categories, which was great. And I know that made Mo very happy. I know Justin at the Nest still has the trophies, so. But talking.
[00:13:30] Speaker B: Well, he gets to keep that. We have another one.
[00:13:32] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:13:32] Speaker B: Get a new one. Everybody gets. Yeah, the trophy doesn't get passed around.
[00:13:36] Speaker A: We got that much money.
[00:13:38] Speaker B: We order a new one.
[00:13:39] Speaker A: That much money.
But I, I. Well, the funny thing is, I, I think I've got Devin, the owner of both, and his wife, possibly putting up a bonus between the two chefs for next year's wing walk.
[00:13:53] Speaker B: Huh.
[00:13:55] Speaker A: So we'll see how that shakes out.
We'll see if that can get Annie'd up. So you come back to work Monday. We saw each other at Proctors and that big announcement.
[00:14:04] Speaker B: Yes, great announcement for them on their.
[00:14:06] Speaker A: Ticketing system and everything. And Maureen, incredibly knows the new ticketing system.
[00:14:12] Speaker B: Yes. You know, her previous experiences in the musical theater industry, she has worked with that system, and so she was able to communicate just how great this is going to be for them. I think, you know, one of the highlights there was that they'll be able to use this system to really hone in on things that are unique to specific people. So if you're someone who really loves the balcony, but you like the middle seat, because it's just the best view, in your opinion. It's things like that, things that, you know, that they already have in their system, but this new one, things they may already have in their system, but this, this new one is just. It's immediately going to pop up and it's going to help recommend spots for people and things and things like that and make sure, you know, it's Just the best customer service that they could have. And so we're excited, you know, to see this happen at Proctors. Says a person who's never seen a show at Proctors. It's on my to do list. Don't yell at me, everybody.
[00:15:06] Speaker A: You might win tickets tomorrow.
[00:15:08] Speaker B: No, tonight. I might win tickets tonight.
[00:15:11] Speaker A: There you go.
So, yeah, it never ends for either of us on either side.
[00:15:16] Speaker B: Nope.
[00:15:17] Speaker A: Old be to new be, it never ends.
So we've got stuff coming up kind of like big in two weeks, right?
We have the Nightmare market.
[00:15:28] Speaker B: Yes. Yes. Yep. Yeah. So, you know, something that we love to promote downtown is, you know, many of the other events, even the ones that we're not putting on or partnering with necessarily, and one that just continues to grow is the Nightmare Market.
And so we're excited to see that back and bigger than ever. And again, you know, you'll hear us talk about it a little bit more in the podcast, but it's just really a great way to showcase our downtown businesses, you know, in the fall time. And it really brings people to this area and sort of lets them, I want to say, like, dream up what's possible. And like. But like, that sounds like this is like rainbows and stuff, but like in the opposite direction. Sort of like dark and twisty kind of not Meredith Gray vibes. Dark and twisty guys like Halloween dark and twisty. So.
But yeah, so I'm excited for that. I'll have to stop down, though. I will be avoiding said clowns in the area.
Thank God for my girl Heather over at Bittersweet with the candied apples, because apple, I might not have gone otherwise.
Not because I don't love it, but because of the clowns. Let's just make that very clear.
[00:16:43] Speaker A: And that leads us into this week's guest, which we have. Sometimes we don't have. A lot of times we don't have guests. But we were fortunate enough to get the Queen of Scream of the Nightmare Market, Kayla Ek, on the Stan and Shen Show.
Welcome back.
[00:17:00] Speaker C: Thank you very much.
[00:17:02] Speaker A: So this is a twofer, but it's a one and a two.
So we invite you in for the first time on the Stan and Shen show as my lovely co host has come back to grace us with her presence.
[00:17:16] Speaker B: I know I walked in, I said, man, I just let anybody into the building now.
[00:17:20] Speaker A: And the first appearance for you on the Stan and Friends show because as my co host departed broke my heart, but I'm still in therapy on it. I'll get over it. We decided that I Still have a need to talk to people weekly. And weekly Standing Friends is weekly.
[00:17:39] Speaker B: I understand that the podcast is weekly. I just meant the general statement of you have a need to speak to people weekly.
[00:17:46] Speaker A: Oh, every minute. You know me.
[00:17:47] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm seconds.
[00:17:49] Speaker A: But oh, I need for I'm needy. Yeah, I need people.
[00:17:52] Speaker B: Which is why your heart is so broken and you're still in therapy.
[00:17:56] Speaker A: Some things don't change.
So Kayla, back to Kayla.
Hey, welcome back.
We talked about. Tell me your story and about my first experience with the nightmare market and then the midsummer mid spring. When did we do it last?
[00:18:16] Speaker C: It was in May.
[00:18:16] Speaker A: In May.
[00:18:17] Speaker C: It feels like it was last week for me but it was in May.
[00:18:22] Speaker A: Is this the big one? Is this the big one? I mean this is right in the heart of the pumpkin per se.
[00:18:27] Speaker C: Yes. So it's the one year anniversary essentially of the first one. So there's a lot of things we have planned to kind of celebrate that. But I'm also seeing incredible traction the last few. Well, the last few months. But the last few weeks have been crazy number wise.
I took a moment to look at our insights like on Google and wix and we hit 500k views between Instagram and our website and I don't know where it's coming from. I don't know if it's just word of mouth or I'm just working overtime, which I am.
But I think this particular market day is going to be pretty big. It's exciting. Super exciting.
[00:19:05] Speaker A: I was there for my first market in May.
Somebody was unavailable.
[00:19:11] Speaker B: I'm hoping the one year will be my first.
[00:19:13] Speaker A: So yeah, she's join us for the anniversary date. She's going to feel fly in for that.
How? I thought it was phenomenal. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Rita was mad that she couldn't make it, but she will be there for this one. She's got it booked.
Just recapping because we we saw each other and chatted real quick but we didn't do anything with the podcast. How big was May and did that springboard into.
[00:19:39] Speaker C: So for the October one, the original date that we had, we had like a brief video count of you know, the crowd that was there. We thought it hit around 6k but we weren't like intentionally counting. We just took like footage and tried to piece it together.
May we made sure to count and we have a friend that does this with like a drone all the time.
So for May we hit 8k people and we had a postponement, right? Yeah.
[00:20:06] Speaker A: Because of weather.
[00:20:07] Speaker C: Yes. And I was worried about that. So we did put some extra money into ads that week leading up to it, but we had less people than the first date. But people spent more money. We went and did a tally and going back to that, so we hit 8.8k in May. We think we almost had 10 in the original one. So I have no idea what October coming up next week is going to look like, but it's really exciting.
But we did a little survey with some of the vendors and local shops and they actually said that even though it was lesser of a crowd in May, they made more money. So I don't know if it happened to be Memorial Day weekend and people were prepared to kind of go out, but it was a really successful time for everybody. Yeah. And I remember you coming up to me and going, ma', am, where's your permit? Yeah. My heart sank.
We, of course have permits. But I remember that because in the rush of everything, I was like, what's going on?
[00:21:02] Speaker A: Our co host guest in the studio, because the last one we did at your place.
What are you looking at for the. I mean, what's your familiarity with the nightmare market? Kind of what's been DSIC's role and, you know, partnering, supporting and things like that? Because I know we're just coming off wing walks. We're like, you're taking half a breath and then it's like, oh, yeah, we've got more stuff going on.
[00:21:25] Speaker B: Yeah. So, you know, we're always happy to be a promotional partner on events that are in the downtown Schenectady community. And so, you know, when, you know, she's reaching out to us, letting us know about what's going on, we're out there pushing that as much as possible. You know, we just shared the. You guys were out with some of the skeletons and we had missed that. And so, you know, it's trying to be fun and humorous with it as well, but really just trying to get as many, like, you know, just like she said, as many eyeballs onto that as possible. Because the more people see it, the more likely they are to turn out to an event, whether that's for an hour, the entirety of the event, the last few minutes of it, you know, just to get in there and see what it's about.
And so that's been our goal. We're going to continue to do that and try to hopefully, you know, within the next few, you know, over the next few days, next several days, push that as much as possible without so much as annoying people I guess with too much of it and in between all the other things that are happening in the downtown community.
But it's an event that, you know, we look forward to because it really highlights our downtown businesses. It really gets a lot of foot traffic down onto J Street and the surrounding area.
And we couldn't be happier that people are going to come down and see the various vendors, but also stop into a lot of our local shops.
[00:22:51] Speaker A: And what's unique about this with Kayla and the nightmare market is this is.
Kayla chose Schenectady for this. This isn't the Ask Partnership.
Would you. Could you.
Of really the community you serve per se in downtown, in the restaurants and retailers and things like that and all the businesses in downtown Skankley. This is someone who had an attraction, found an attraction to J Street and then you became that partner.
So what's that like? What's kind of the vibe at DSIC when you've discovered, in a sense, someone like Kayla who's said that this is the place to have this thing and can you help me and help me help you and vice versa. So what's that like?
[00:23:37] Speaker B: So I know she's worked very closely with the J Street Business Association. You know, we get. We're part of their. Their groove. We sit in on all those meetings and I. And I think what's, you know, great about this is, you know, you mentioned finding this love for J Street, which is what happens so often when people come to the city. It is a unique corridor that we have. And, you know, the street itself, sort of the look and the makeup of it kind of give that very.
Fall.
When it's fall.
[00:24:11] Speaker C: Yeah, Well, I feel like all year round. It has like a charm to it. Yeah, yeah.
[00:24:16] Speaker B: It has that almost small town sort of charm at it that lends itself well to a market like this because like when you're out there and you're starting to see the decorations come out and you know, you're seeing.
God, I'm blinking on the. From Nightmare Before Christmas Jack there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they're starting to put that up. And the little yellow leaves are falling off the trees. Yeah, the look. Yes.
[00:24:42] Speaker C: I just found out what those trees were because the past few years.
That's a very good observation. They have these little tiny yellow leaves that are very rare. I don't see them anywhere else besides J Street.
And I've seen them in the last three years. And my husband, of course, the tree guy, he's like, do you even know what those are? I'm like, no idea. And he's like, they're locusts. If anybody says they're honey locusts, which contributes to the name.
But, yeah, there's a wonderful charm to J Street, and I'm so glad you said that Jack Skellington thing, because it almost does have, like, a Tim Burton vibe. And I've had two people in the last week say, because they're actually coming from out of town to go to the Nightmare Market, that from the photos, so they haven't been here yet. It looks similar to Essex street in Salem. And then someone from Connecticut compared it to Sandy Hook, which is a very, like, old historic area, cobblestone. J Street obviously has that charm, but it's cool. And I feel, like, unique to the capital Region, too. Like, I don't feel like every downtown area looks like J Street.
[00:25:46] Speaker B: It's almost like you've stepped. Adapt into sort of your own little, like, world when you get to J Street. And then the businesses that make up that area, too, are so unique in themselves.
So, you know, I'm talking about bittersweet candy and Orions and ambition and, you know, whistling kettle in the bookstore, like, nothing screams more.
Nothing screams charming more than a literal bookstore on the corner of this street that is just so different and everything else that is Schenectady.
So I think when we get an opportunity to bring in an event that is also so very specific and, again, just unique in itself, it makes people want to come to this area. And so we're very lucky. We used to do a fall event. We have done away with that because there are so many that. That get put on in our area. And with Nightmare Market picking up speed as it is and just getting more and more people down here, we see a need to just highlight that more than trying to put something together ourselves.
[00:26:58] Speaker A: I think the typical question is, can you get bigger and better after last year's first and then May, and I think you're there this year.
[00:27:10] Speaker C: I know.
So I think we are getting bigger. And at this point, there's no. I'm not trying to stop it, like, let it grow.
And I'm very, very grateful. There is a lot of. I say I'm lucky and I'm grateful, but I've been working my butt off on everything. There's a lot of work ahead of me and a lot of work behind me, but I only want it to get bigger. It only benefits everybody. And I think last time I mentioned it engulfing my life. I want that. I want it to engulf my life, so it's really cool to see it grow. It's happening really fast, and we're only trying to, like, improve it and add new things. And we're really trying to separate us from other events, like, in the region. So we really are trying to make it like a region destination. Even though it's officially, as of this year, a Schenectady destination, we want people from all over to seek this event.
But it's cool that it's happening. I almost pinched myself the other day. We just hit over 6,000 followers, and I was like, that's a number. I never thought when I started this two years ago that we would hit.
So it's really cool to watch.
[00:28:13] Speaker A: What are you hanging your proverbial. What's the. You know, you love this for me.
What's the elevator pitch for this nightmare market that people can't miss?
[00:28:25] Speaker C: So there's different things that we've added, but there's an. Throughout the entire market, there is a Tim Burton theme happening. I can't give away everything, but the costumer has gotten these wonderful, very, very detailed Beetlejuice and Lydia costumes. And we've paid two actors that look very similar to them.
So they will be going around taking photos and being in character with people.
And with that, we already have. Jack Ambition has a whole menu dedicated to Nightmare Before Christmas.
And then there's some larger surprises that I can't really say what they are really. Yeah.
[00:29:02] Speaker B: And I don't know what they are.
[00:29:03] Speaker C: E. So don't ask. The only people that know are my neighbors who are watching me make the thing.
And I don't even think they know what's going on, to be honest. They never do.
But.
[00:29:15] Speaker A: So it's bigger than a coffin?
[00:29:17] Speaker C: It's bigger than a coffin, yes.
But, you know, that's been interesting to watch.
But even though I can't spoil it, you will see it on social media leading up to the market so very soon.
[00:29:30] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:29:31] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:29:32] Speaker A: Everybody was so. So here's. I love to tell this story. It's revealing and embarrassing, is that I'm an old square.
You know what I mean? I'm an old guy.
I mean, I love everybody.
That's it. I have a couple rules. Love someone, care about someone, believe in something. I don't care if you're a druid. I don't care. Whatever.
[00:29:53] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:29:54] Speaker A: So it's like, very simple rules for being a square as much as I am and things like that.
So there's a little apprehension. And I had this in Johnstown when I went to the First Oddities Market that Benny held, I'm like, okay, everyone's gonna be really goth, and I'm not. I'm Mr. Rainbow, and I'm gonna see a lot of people in black and white. I'm gonna ask to take their photos, and I'm like, I don't want to get punched and stuff like that.
[00:30:16] Speaker B: First audience, this is my spot.
[00:30:18] Speaker A: Then I'm like, everybody's so cool. Everyone's so cool at the Oddities Market. And that's why when it came to the Nightmare Market, I'm like, really? I'm like, okay, these are my people. Because you take photos and you want to get IDs, and that's kind of what we do. And it was so cool. So Nightmare Market, exact same thing. Every single person I took photos of, they stopped for photos. They're willing to give you IDs, things like that. The vendors were wicked awesome. We had the one vendor I had to go see that. You talked about that, and I shared this with you, I think. And it is different that he actually uses.
[00:30:51] Speaker B: Oh, Max.
[00:30:51] Speaker A: Max uses blood in his artwork.
[00:30:53] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:30:55] Speaker A: Which is different.
[00:30:57] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:30:58] Speaker A: One of the nicest human beings I ever met.
[00:31:00] Speaker C: Oh, yes. Him and his manager are incredibly nice and talented, and they're very well traveled. You could talk to him about his life and what he does. He makes music.
The Catacombs in France. He's filmed a music video in there.
He's just an incredibly talented person. But, you know, a thing you said is that everybody's incredibly welcoming, even though you're not necessarily, like, in that subculture sort of thing. So the big thing about the Nightmare Market is we've only said that it's a celebration of the alternative community for the whole community. And a big part of that is us curating the vendors and who we're working with and making sure that they kind of align with, like, our brand morals.
But we want people who are outside of that subculture to feel welcome. And I actually think we're doing a decent job at it, because when you look at the photos of the event, it's really cool to see people bring, like, their grandparents, their aunt and uncle. You can tell that they're very, like, amazed by what they're seeing, which is a lot of fun for me.
But I did get some feedback, too, from some of the local businesses about how nice our crowds are. And that's, like, the best compliment you could tell me, because I'm trying to break that stigma of what alternative, goth, metalheads, what they are. That's Exactly. What I'm trying to show people is like, you don't have to be afraid of us sort of thing or feel like you're gonna get punched in the face.
[00:32:23] Speaker A: Well, because I'm thinking, you know, so I'm like, kind of like I'm the worst one. You know, I'm the one, you know, I'm the one intruding so often because you're always looking for the candidates. So in a sense, I'm intruding on their day.
[00:32:36] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:32:36] Speaker A: So that's where the apprehension is that I don't want to offend anyone. And it's just, you know, if it's a no, it's a delete, delete, delete, and I'm done. And thank you very much.
[00:32:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:44] Speaker C: You don't want them to feel like you're making a spectacle or anything. Yeah. And I get that.
[00:32:48] Speaker A: Everybody. And then also with that, the amount of people that were attending with their kids both, you know, in, in the subculture and the kids are a part of it and they're in wagons.
[00:33:01] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:33:02] Speaker A: You know, I mean, these are toddlers coming around with mom and dad and they were having a blast and people were bringing their kids. And I know we kind of talked about it on the first podcast was it's family friendly.
[00:33:16] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:33:16] Speaker A: You know, but you know, there'll be signs like if it's not. If it goes kind of too far darker.
[00:33:22] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:33:22] Speaker A: You know, you know, ahead of time.
[00:33:24] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:33:25] Speaker A: But I didn't even get that.
[00:33:26] Speaker C: You know, I think.
Cause I've only said it's adult centered but family friendly. And I recently, like in the last two weeks, someone said, well, that's a little confusing. What do you mean by that? And basically it means most of what we're booking there is adult centered, meaning that you might not. If you're a five year old, you probably don't even have your own money to shop around. And most of it's shopping. Right. But we are booking things for people with kids. So there's a face painter, there's decor that they can run around, there's grass, you know, there's a DIY make your own potion thing going on. There's a muralist, there's street performers that. There's a few that this year they are like some scarier characters. But we've already trained them not to chase. That's a big thing with me is not everybody likes that at all. And then we booked street performers that are more circus oriented. So they're very upbeat and cheery and just talented.
[00:34:16] Speaker A: People.
[00:34:17] Speaker C: So my big thing with the Nightmare market is I'm a millennial. A lot of the vendors, they're all in that age group. They're all starting families, and not everybody can get childcare. This economy, it's tight for everybody.
So I really wanted something where it was free to get in and you could bring your kids, and they're gonna be just as thrilled to be there as you are.
So I appreciate that you said you saw strollers and stuff like that, because I.
Well, there was Agony the clown, who literally had a stroller with a clown in it.
But that's a big perspective that I'm trying to make sure we're following is from a parent's perspective.
[00:34:51] Speaker B: Hold on. Just real quick.
[00:34:52] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:34:53] Speaker B: Yeah. Other clowns this year.
[00:34:55] Speaker C: Oh, Agony's coming back. Yeah, he's really cool.
[00:35:00] Speaker B: You know, me and clowns, though. I don't do clowns.
[00:35:02] Speaker A: I think. I think.
[00:35:06] Speaker B: Just don't forget me.
[00:35:08] Speaker C: He's really good.
[00:35:09] Speaker B: I don't do clowns. Doesn't matter if they're happy clowns or sad clowns or creepy clowns. I just.
[00:35:15] Speaker C: He is a little bit of a creepy clown, but he's. He's.
[00:35:17] Speaker B: The stripes.
[00:35:18] Speaker A: Really cool one. Really cool individual.
[00:35:21] Speaker B: Yeah.
He could be the nicest person in the entire world, but he dresses like a clown.
[00:35:27] Speaker A: And this is the part of our show where Shen has to have something.
[00:35:30] Speaker B: It's a lot, man.
[00:35:32] Speaker A: So one performer that drew a huge crowd was. And I got her name wrong, but you corrected me on it because my handwriting was awful.
The fire baton. I don't know if they're coming.
[00:35:42] Speaker C: Oh, yes. So Luna Fire Fawn is like, her stage name. And we always put a survey out right after the market in our newsletter and to vendors about what they like, what they didn't like.
[00:35:52] Speaker B: And.
[00:35:52] Speaker C: And the vendors always tell me things about, like, parking, you know, stuff like that.
[00:35:56] Speaker A: Garbage.
[00:35:56] Speaker C: Yeah, garbage.
[00:35:57] Speaker B: We hear that all the time. That's.
[00:36:00] Speaker C: Garbage is another topic.
[00:36:01] Speaker A: That's another 20 minutes after you get.
[00:36:03] Speaker C: Out of here with your garbage.
[00:36:04] Speaker B: Yes. Let's just make it very clear. DSIC picks up the DSIC trash cans. If it's a city trash can, it's a union job. We can't touch those.
[00:36:12] Speaker C: Well, I'm happy to announce that the Nightmare Market now has five of their very own trash cans. Yes.
[00:36:18] Speaker B: So just to.
[00:36:19] Speaker C: That's probably the only complaint we got.
And I. Shouldn't I say complaint so loosely? Because it wasn't a huge complaint. It was just like, hey, we can mitigate this. Yeah. Try.
[00:36:28] Speaker B: It's the same with us.
[00:36:29] Speaker A: For the Luna Firefall.
[00:36:32] Speaker C: Yes. Sorry.
[00:36:32] Speaker A: No, that's. I want to make sure I got it right, so. Can you twirl a baton?
[00:36:37] Speaker B: No.
[00:36:38] Speaker A: Okay.
Can you practice?
[00:36:41] Speaker B: I might be able to.
[00:36:43] Speaker C: She's a great teacher.
[00:36:44] Speaker A: That's what I'm saying.
[00:36:45] Speaker B: Not.
[00:36:45] Speaker A: We have to do a TikTok with you.
[00:36:47] Speaker B: If you got a hula Hooper, I can do that.
[00:36:49] Speaker A: I think she did.
[00:36:51] Speaker C: She did. She has some crazy tools, and a lot of them.
[00:36:54] Speaker B: I can hula.
[00:36:54] Speaker A: And it was windy, too, so that.
[00:36:56] Speaker B: Was a. I can do it all. Yeah. But she did it.
[00:36:57] Speaker A: Great job.
[00:36:58] Speaker B: She.
[00:36:58] Speaker C: She kept warning me, too, and I. I trust her so much. I've watched her at other events before I even started the nightmare market. When I tell you she's one of those, like, make it or break it types, like, she is so incredibly skilled with understanding her surroundings and she rides horseback like she's one of those superwoman people.
But. Yeah. So we put out a survey and we had like, 50 people say, if she can come back, please book her again. And I was like, well, lucky for you guys, in six months, I'm booking entertainment.
And she was more than happy to say, yeah, and let's make you the first performance. So the people that are looking forward to seeing you, you're the first one.
[00:37:38] Speaker A: Okay. So in a sense, it's the opening act, headliner type of thing.
[00:37:41] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:42] Speaker C: So I think the opening act, even though we do have, like a finale performance, the opening act, I feel, is always kind of sets the mood. And since she, you know, has a crowd looking for her, I was like, obviously, we have to have Luna back. Yeah.
So we have the circus company that we're working with. They are called Starfire Entertainment. They're coming all the way from Philly.
So before they do the grand finale performance, they're going to be in these really crazy costumes.
Some of them on stilts, some not. Some of them have, like, disco ball for heads. Like they don't look real sort of thing. They're going to be roaming around for a few hours just entertaining people.
We have Alicia. I believe it's Aleyah or Aliyah or Alicia Lee. Sorry, Alicia.
She will be doing a mural in the center of J Square, a live mural that's kind of themed for the market.
We have Whistling kettle this year that made the most detailed tea menu and lemonade menu that are all supposed to look like they have blood in it, which I.
Yeah. And they look.
[00:38:47] Speaker B: That's cool.
[00:38:48] Speaker C: Delicious as they are. Spooky Bittersweet is doing the candy apples and hot chocolate this time because it's going to be a little colder. There's so much I could go on for like a while. I don't know if you want.
[00:38:58] Speaker B: See, that's how you give me their bittersweet.
[00:39:00] Speaker A: That's. I was just gonna say candy apples.
Oh, candied apples are on the line.
[00:39:04] Speaker B: Oh, I love candy apples. That's like one of those fall items you gotta have.
[00:39:09] Speaker C: Yes. So I. She was like, can I do hot chocolate? I was like, you can. But I know for a fact people keep saying the candy apples. The candy apples.
But I do think a warm drink is a smart idea because it does look like it's going to be a little colder that day. Yeah.
[00:39:24] Speaker B: Which is good. It's going to feel very fall esque.
[00:39:27] Speaker C: Yes. Yeah. I don't want the 80 degree weather that's been happening the past week.
[00:39:30] Speaker B: You know what Wing walk weather.
[00:39:32] Speaker C: Oh, I was thinking about that actually. It was hot that day.
[00:39:35] Speaker B: Yeah, it was a little toasty.
[00:39:40] Speaker A: Percentages excited, Percentages nervous.
[00:39:44] Speaker C: So I actually think I was more nervous for May and that's because it was like the runner up, you know, setting the bar high. October, I'm more excited. Like I am going to have a great time and I think we got the layout, the format, the way we prep things, the way we pack the U haul. Like everything is like this is the third time we're doing it.
So I'm more excited than everything. Even though I do have a three page checklist that I'm still working on leading up.
Yeah. It's just exciting and I think this is our biggest event, our boldest event. There's a lot going on. I'm going to be running the entire time, but it's mostly just fun for me.
[00:40:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:40:25] Speaker C: So percentage nervous? I would actually say maybe 0.5.
[00:40:29] Speaker A: Really?
[00:40:29] Speaker C: Yeah. I feel really good about it actually. Yeah.
[00:40:33] Speaker A: So we're gonna leave it at that because we're gonna have you back.
[00:40:38] Speaker C: Oh, okay. Cool.
[00:40:39] Speaker A: Because the market theme and life for Kayla Ek does not end with ho ho.
[00:40:47] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:40:48] Speaker A: Right. We have other exciting stuff.
[00:40:51] Speaker C: Yes. The Expo.
[00:40:52] Speaker A: The Expo which is coming up.
[00:40:55] Speaker C: Yeah. So if you don't mind if I talk about it.
[00:40:57] Speaker A: By all means.
[00:40:58] Speaker C: So a lot of people.
[00:40:59] Speaker A: I didn't know you did.
[00:40:59] Speaker C: I'm like, no, there's a lot of things being released on Halloween so I think the timing is good because we have the market and then we have like a big release on Halloween day. But a lot of people keep asking me like what's the difference between the Expo and the market? Market is family friendly. The Expo is family friendly. But there's definitely gonna be a lot more clear labels things in certain rooms. It's a little darker.
The vendors are leaning into the darker stuff, the occult, stuff like that.
But it is a true showcase. So while the market is more local, maybe in the region, vendors and we rotate them out so everybody has equal opportunity. The showcase at the Expo is more like industry brands. They're so well established, they have a cult following. We have a few of them coming from the west coast.
And then we actually have a few featured guests that I cannot wait to release on Halloween. I'm honored to work with them.
But our Featured guest for 2026 is actually a really big YouTuber.
And if you're into the true crime, if you're like a junkie into the true crime.
[00:42:08] Speaker A: Here we go. She's perked up.
[00:42:10] Speaker B: There you are.
[00:42:11] Speaker A: She can't wait.
She's going to be bugging all the way down the stairs.
[00:42:14] Speaker C: If it's. If you get that content from YouTube, you will 100,000% know who this is.
I was so surprised to get their email back. I swore it was like a AI spam bot. Who knew? I was like, on their website.
I really didn't think it was real. And I replied back and waited like two weeks and I was like, oh, yeah, that was spam. And they actually replied and I was like, oh, my God, it's a real person.
But yeah, we're working with them. We have a contract. We're going to announce who it is on Halloween.
But yeah, there's a lot of really cool things coming to Schenectady and I'm honored to work with these people and highlight them with everybody that will be there.
[00:42:52] Speaker A: So I can just start putting you in for November 7th podcast.
[00:42:55] Speaker C: Yes, that would be awesome with DSIC.
[00:42:57] Speaker A: Because they'll be at Proctors, right?
[00:42:59] Speaker C: Yes. And we actually. I'll talk to you more about it at another date, but there's some things with DSIC I think would be cold hats there.
[00:43:06] Speaker A: Yeah, we'll talk about the minds will talk.
[00:43:09] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:43:09] Speaker A: Stan will just be photos and you know, I'm like just, you know, you.
[00:43:14] Speaker B: Got the heads up.
[00:43:16] Speaker C: We've spoken about you interviewing the featured guest.
[00:43:20] Speaker B: So I am know it.
[00:43:22] Speaker A: Yeah, just.
[00:43:24] Speaker C: Yes, yes.
[00:43:24] Speaker A: Time and date.
[00:43:25] Speaker C: I couldn't think of a better interviewer. And this is somebody that I like. I'm a fan of this person and I'm like, I need someone who will really get into, like, the personal side of them. You're gonna. I know. You're gonna just knock it out of the water. Yeah, I'm excited.
[00:43:40] Speaker B: Or knock it out of the woods, since that's where we like to be. Body.
[00:43:46] Speaker A: I got. I've got nothing. I've got. I got nothing. I got nothing on Nightmare. I've got nowhere to go on this one. I'm like. But I'm sure.
[00:43:55] Speaker B: Well, you had a wicked pun, but you didn't catch yourself on it.
[00:43:57] Speaker A: That's true. That's true. I did. And, yeah, I'm sure it'll scare the bejesus out of me.
[00:44:03] Speaker C: Well, one thing, and maybe this will be a hint.
It is a female, so I'll say that. But she also. She's very intellectual. And that's where I think you'd be a great interviewer, because she's not so much, like, spooky scary, even though that's her content.
[00:44:18] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:44:19] Speaker C: Yeah. That's where I think you.
[00:44:21] Speaker B: So again.
[00:44:21] Speaker A: So automatically I've got to talk to a woman smarter than I am, which is not hard to do. So that's why you're like, oh, stairs. Stan's perfect for that.
That's why I'm with you. I was with you almost every week, so don't give me that. What are you seeing?
I'm like, that's why you've been on the show.
[00:44:36] Speaker B: I know, I know you've been missing it.
[00:44:39] Speaker C: You guys were separated for, like a week.
[00:44:42] Speaker A: You guys don't understand, you know that this is like. You know the phrase, you know, rent space in my head?
[00:44:48] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:44:48] Speaker A: I got a wing.
[00:44:49] Speaker C: Oh, you got a hall.
[00:44:51] Speaker B: Offices.
[00:44:52] Speaker A: There's a shen ying.
[00:44:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:44:54] Speaker A: During her time here.
[00:44:56] Speaker C: This is great that you guys can actually still collaborate, though. It was like, how lucky and fortunate.
[00:45:00] Speaker A: Ask. Because Jen's like, I still want to do this. I'm like, you have a boss now. Before we could just run wild.
[00:45:05] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:45:05] Speaker A: I'm like, you have a boss now, so.
[00:45:07] Speaker B: Oh. She was immediately all for it.
[00:45:08] Speaker C: I was gonna say, you have a pretty cool boss. Yeah, she.
[00:45:11] Speaker A: She was like, oh, yeah.
[00:45:13] Speaker B: Shout out to Maury.
[00:45:13] Speaker C: Yeah. Hi.
[00:45:14] Speaker A: Marie Newfellow. Yep. And Shannon's still working even though you're gone for a couple days. I didn't keep an eye on her.
[00:45:20] Speaker B: Oh. Oh, okay. Yeah. Let her know that she knows. She knows things are getting done.
[00:45:25] Speaker A: Put it out there. So thank you so much for coming in.
[00:45:28] Speaker C: Thank you for having me.
[00:45:29] Speaker A: And we will see you five o' clock on the 18th.
[00:45:32] Speaker C: Yes, on the 18th. I'll be there from 9:00am to probably 12 at night. But yes, I'll see you guys at 5.
[00:45:39] Speaker A: And newsy. Newsy is making the appearance in costume. Good.
[00:45:43] Speaker C: It's same one as last.
Last May or this May.
[00:45:46] Speaker A: The different costume.
[00:45:48] Speaker B: Oh, cool.
[00:45:49] Speaker A: So newsies news. He's also very excited making the appearance.
[00:45:51] Speaker C: I look forward to seeing him.
[00:45:54] Speaker A: Kayla's wonderful. Isn't she great?
[00:45:56] Speaker B: Yeah, she was fantastic. And she smelled fabulous today. I know that sounds weird to say on the podcast, but she walked in and I was like, wow.
[00:46:03] Speaker A: What's great about it was that you said it.
[00:46:06] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:46:07] Speaker A: And then I could just be on the other side going, I totally agree with her. Thank God she said it because I'm like kind of stuck. I'm like, I would say it after she left.
[00:46:14] Speaker B: Yeah. No, she smells fantastic.
[00:46:16] Speaker A: But she's just.
[00:46:17] Speaker B: I'm glad she's gonna send that to me.
[00:46:19] Speaker A: Yeah. Yes. You shared perfumes. And I'm like, I guess I'm out.
[00:46:24] Speaker B: We talk about so many things.
[00:46:26] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:46:27] Speaker B: Not that don't actually make it up.
Yeah.
[00:46:31] Speaker A: So that's. That's kind of it.
[00:46:35] Speaker B: At least for the month of October. Really. So for the month of October, I mean, there will be little smaller events going on. Union Colleges this Friday and Saturday we'll be celebrating and honoring the new president that's being installed to the community.
And so that's a 3:30 begins the academic procession followed by a ceremony at 4 on Friday up at the college and then a union hockey game that night that is free to the community.
It's a women's team playing at the new M and T Bank center at the Mohawk Harbor. Can't just call it the Ice arena anymore. Can't call it as a name.
[00:47:13] Speaker A: And you can't call it the bank because we got a memo on that.
[00:47:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:47:17] Speaker A: Not a sponsor.
[00:47:20] Speaker B: And then on Saturday they'll have some. Some other things going on. And we just posted about that on our social media and also just you guys should sign up for our newsletter because we are always posting about all the different events going on Facebook. Yes.
[00:47:34] Speaker A: On the Gram.
[00:47:35] Speaker B: Yes. Because we'll be posting more and more. Can see what all of our local businesses have going on. I know Center Street's doing some Oktoberfest stuff, so still a few of those going on.
Yeah. So, you know, we always look forward to the market every weekend. That's a great thing happening in downtown. And then, you know, we're heading into the month of November, so. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's an event that's Gonna potentially be happening that I can't talk about yet because it's still a lot of work in progress on their end but potentially something around Veterans Day. So hopefully they can get that going and, and I can have, you know, we can get back together and discuss that. But we just had to sit down with the organization that's trying to plan it and I could see their expression was very much like mine when I had to jump in a wing walk right away. And it's a lot of like wow, this is a lot.
But things, things get done and we're helping with that, with that and promoting that. Mopco celebrating the 30th anniversary. Anniversary but you know, heading back into November we have the parade which Dan and I may still be a part of. A part of.
[00:48:42] Speaker A: We don't know if we get an invitation.
[00:48:45] Speaker B: We're hoping they shine the light on this here soon clean.
[00:48:48] Speaker A: You know, I've you know blocked out the schedule.
[00:48:52] Speaker B: I'll be there still that day because I won't mess up.
[00:48:54] Speaker A: Yeah, I probably have to be there. Well Newsy's going to be there no.
[00:48:58] Speaker B: Matter what so I won't miss the parade for anything.
[00:49:01] Speaker A: Mrs. Claus will be there with if.
[00:49:04] Speaker B: I am not needed on the county end. The Gazette better let me dress up is all I know. So yeah, and then you know, turning around, you know, the following week after that just to get this on everybody's minds is you know, we, we know you all love Amazon but shopping local is where it's at. And so Small Business Saturday will be coming up and we'll be pushing that a lot and excited to see you know what holiday items our various places have in mind. But remember you don't have to just shop local that day. You should do it whenever you can but at least once a week.
Speaking of which, I did shop local this week. My local shop was the open door bookstore where I happened to find a Christmas gift for a specific somebody.
[00:49:50] Speaker A: So yeah, which we, which we chatted about.
[00:49:52] Speaker B: Which we did chat about not going to say who or what.
[00:49:55] Speaker A: But it was, it was, it was a, it was a, it was a great stop.
[00:49:59] Speaker B: I'm have to wrap it though.
Not, not the greatest when it comes to wrapping gifts mainly because I'm very like very like specific and I want them to look cute. Like last year I went all out, even got bows and I know I didn't need to get bows for my nephew's gifts cuz the kids like three is just going to tear it open. But I was like oh they look pretty.
So, yeah.
[00:50:22] Speaker A: All right, so that's it for this week and possibly this month because we'll be together on the 18th for Nightmare Market.
[00:50:34] Speaker B: 18Th, a big day for us.
[00:50:35] Speaker A: 18Th, big day. Big day for. Big day for the crew because Newsy and Stan will be at the opposite end at wing off in Saratoga and then shutting down.
[00:50:45] Speaker B: I have something else planned in the morning. Do you not know what else is happening on the 18th?
[00:50:50] Speaker A: Not your birthday. So what's up?
[00:50:52] Speaker B: Well, shout out to Fables at the fairies opening.
[00:50:55] Speaker A: Ah, yes.
[00:50:56] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:50:56] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't.
[00:50:58] Speaker B: Life and arts editor Indiana Nash opening a bookstore. There we go.
Former sports editor Mike Kelly's fiance, Caroline.
[00:51:06] Speaker A: He put a ring on it.
[00:51:07] Speaker B: I thought they were engaged. No partner. Sorry. Oops. Hopefully.
I don't know anything. Caroline. I just want to note that, just FYI, I have no. If he has something planned. I don't know. It'll be a surprise to all of us if I just spot.
[00:51:23] Speaker A: A surprise to all of us. Yes.
[00:51:25] Speaker B: I just spot on. Guess that if he doesn't have anything planned, he should start do.
[00:51:28] Speaker A: Which is your counterpart, Caroline being the counterpart over at Albany County.
[00:51:32] Speaker B: Yes. Which we still have downtown Albany get together on. But yeah. So a lot of exciting things happening.
A lot of good things happening in downtown Schenectady. So excited.
[00:51:42] Speaker A: All right, so I'm gonna get out of here also.
[00:51:45] Speaker B: It's a free. If I'm not mistaken, it's a. Well, eventually podcast free day at my side on Monday. They can get in for free, I believe, at my side as Shen goes.
[00:51:54] Speaker A: To her phone, but I'm not even talking. So this is. Things have changed. Things have changed. Usually it's I'll talk and then Shen's on her phone. But she's been very attentive the last two podcasts. I've been very excited. This new role she's taken up as she's still looking at her.
[00:52:09] Speaker B: Yes. Buy size. Next free museum admission day is Monday, October 13th. So maybe I'll see you guys there, because I'm trying to go. I'm trying to go. Oh, yes. Columbus Day.
[00:52:18] Speaker A: Because that's great. Yeah, that's great for them. My side.
[00:52:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:21] Speaker A: Part of that. You're at the Zafron opening.
[00:52:23] Speaker B: Yes. Oh, yes. Yes. Saffron Kitchen opened its doors to the community.
Phenomenal food. The family couldn't be nicer.
The two little girls there were just talk in mind and Maureen's airs off. And I'm pretty sure they have my whole family lineage at this point. They know my Favorite colors. The car I drive, what I named my car, what my favorite metallic color is.
They asked me where we get our big scissors from, for which I. I had no idea. But apparently it's like big scissors dot com.
[00:52:54] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:52:55] Speaker B: And the only people who have bigger scissors than us are the colony chamber, something, something. There's a one chamber that. That has bigger scissors than us. And that's just one, though. So.
[00:53:09] Speaker A: Anyway, so that. That will change the.
Yeah. So.
[00:53:14] Speaker B: But I gotta skedaddle now.
[00:53:15] Speaker A: Yes. You got a thing. I've got a thing. And I'm gonna get us out and then you're gonna finish us. Because it's changed now. You're the guest. You're the guest.
[00:53:24] Speaker B: No, I'm not doing that. We're just gonna say goodbye like normal. You can give you a little end of the slogan spiel thing you want to do. Live your best life. Life. Whatever it is. And yeah, don't put all that pressure on me. I got enough. Okay. Put a lot of pressure on me to end things, you know. I get what you want. A quote of the week.
[00:53:42] Speaker A: I'll give you a quote as she go. She has to go to her phone for a quote.
[00:53:46] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't have a quote off the top of my head. Okay.
[00:53:48] Speaker A: Come on, man.
[00:53:50] Speaker B: Hold on. I got the perfect quote.
[00:53:51] Speaker A: She has the perfect quote as she's looking it up.
[00:53:54] Speaker B: I got it.
[00:53:55] Speaker A: Is it T. Swift?
[00:53:56] Speaker B: I didn't know.
[00:53:57] Speaker A: How did I know?
I sent you a photo of the album cover on Friday because I was thinking of you and you're like, yes. I already listened to it twice now.
But the album's good.
[00:54:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, every song on the album is a bop. I can't quote the album because a little raunchy in some places.
[00:54:18] Speaker A: And she's happy and she's raunchy.
Well, okay.
[00:54:22] Speaker B: Okay. Are you guys ready?
There are no rules when it comes to love. I just try to let love surprise me. Because you never know who you're going to fall in love with. You never know who's going to come into your life. You're welcome. Let that love be a business, though. In downtown Schenectady.
You're welcome, everybody.
[00:54:40] Speaker A: That's it. Stan with the Daily Gazette, Shannon with dsic. In case. You know what that was a lot of people don't. Downtown Skectady Improvement Corp.
She's off. I'm here. We've got work. Until the next time. It has been a pleasure. I will bring coffee next time, I promise. Our schedules got crazy busy, so until next time. It's Stan with the Daily Gazette.
[00:54:59] Speaker B: Coffee? Next time I'm not coming. I'm just kidding. That's not true.
[00:55:03] Speaker A: Goodbye.
[00:55:04] Speaker B: Goodbye.
