Show Notes

Some things change, some things stay the same on the Stan and Shen Show!

Shen has a real office! She is busy talking to businesses, loves to talk about food, Stan brought coffee and a gift -- but all in a new space!

It's been over a week since Shen left Stan (heartbroken) at The Daily Gazette, but she is close by at Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corp and busy with the upcoming Oct. 4 Wing Walk, and she has all the details!

The two discussed her absence from the newspaper, what Stan is working on, including Monday, September 29, National Coffee Day.

[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hi, I'm Stan. [00:00:02] Speaker B: And I'm Shen. [00:00:03] Speaker A: And each week we bring you the Stan and Shen Show. And each week we talk about fun things through our travels throughout the capital region. We touch on food, we touch on news, try to touch heavily on good news. And Shen's always available with hot takes. [00:00:20] Speaker B: Yeah. So if you could follow along and listen to us every week on DailyGazette.com or on all major streaming platforms, we'd love to have you join us. [00:00:30] Speaker A: New digs. [00:00:32] Speaker B: Yes. Work in progress. We took down the very weird artsy outdoor scenery and we have a blank slate that will eventually get a corkboard for all of the things I need to keep track of. [00:00:47] Speaker A: So for stan and Shen 2.0. We are not in the Daily Gazette podcast studio today. [00:00:53] Speaker B: We are not. We are in Shannon's office at the downtown Schenectady Improvement Corp Building. [00:00:59] Speaker A: Yes. [00:01:00] Speaker B: On Union Street. [00:01:01] Speaker A: With a view. [00:01:03] Speaker B: With a view. Yes. It is always a joy when the fire department comes by. [00:01:11] Speaker A: So how's it been? [00:01:12] Speaker B: How's it rotten. [00:01:13] Speaker A: So how's, how's the week 10 days been since you broke my heart? [00:01:20] Speaker B: Well, the first day was a little rough because I couldn't get on our network, but we did it in the second half and we got things done that day. So the first week was fun. It's a lot of new things to get used to, learning a lot of new skills and got to go to my first ribbon cutting on Saturday for 518 Coffee Bar just down the street from us, which is we're promoting them today on the podcast because we are drinking them and may now be the new star whenever we do a podcast. But they're great, great turnout for them. Our promotions for them have done significantly well on our social media and so we're excited about that and hopefully they continue to see great success. You know, working on another grand opening ribbon cutting coming up soon, which you'll find out more about. [00:02:16] Speaker A: It's secret, secret to. From one business actor to another. You're keeping me in the dark. I'm in the dark here, Charlie. [00:02:24] Speaker B: You get a press advisory. [00:02:26] Speaker A: I get it with everybody else. [00:02:28] Speaker B: I'll tell you after the podcast. So you have a heads up. But okay. The podcast does not get sent away yet. But yeah, so a lot, lot to, you know, came in immediately, started taking over some of the, some of the Facebook posts and stuff and you know, Maureen Neufeld, our executive director and my boss has hopped in, you know, when I've missed things or you know, help share things that she sees. But if you're seeing all the wing walkers, those are me. So I hope enjoying my. My puns and variety of fun facts. I was trying to find one about barbecue sauce today that is apparently really complicated because the origins of barbecue sauce, depending on who you talk to, will depend on where it comes and when it started. So we may be skipping that one, but we have a lot of fun posts coming up for Wing Walk, which we'll talk about in a second. But also, I've taken over a lot of the general Facebook post for dsic. So if you just saw my one on fall. The Fall festival at the Schenectady Green Market, I had a lot of fun with the jokes and the puns in that one. Yeah. So I hope you guys are enjoying them. Reach out with any. You know, if you're a business owner listening to this and you're in the downtown Schenectady Improvement Courts district, please reach out to us with anything you might have going on because we love to. [00:03:46] Speaker A: Promote what is the DSIC district? For those of us who don't know, don't ask. Okay. Next week. [00:03:57] Speaker B: I'm still learning it. [00:03:58] Speaker A: She's still learning. Okay. [00:04:00] Speaker B: I know that our building. I know that our offices are on the very cusp of one end of it. [00:04:06] Speaker A: Okay. [00:04:07] Speaker B: And we don't. We cover a very like. Like one street in like the Stockade. Really. And the cool strip. We go down to at least Boulevard Bowl. Okay. But we don't really cover like the Mohawk harbor, per se. Okay. So I'm still learning it. That's, you know, part of the traditional. Yeah. [00:04:29] Speaker A: Downtown way back when. The black and white photos you want? [00:04:33] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I mean, like, obviously the main streets, like State Street, J Street, portions of Erie Boulevard, like, if you like, we were at Crete Studios. That's in our area, though. We did not do that ribbon cutting. It is in our area to promote the great things that they're doing over there. Obviously as far out. Like Armory Studios is in our district. But yeah, I'm still learning that that is still part of it. We. We did about half of the district. I really need a map in the office because I'm a visual learner. I will say this, though. Maureen the other day pointed out to me that. That the glass that's actually on her, like, how better of an office could this have been for us? The fact that the glass that makes up her office is a map of our district. Wow. Well, fun fact. So what? That was already here when they were looking for a new office space. And it's like it was meant to be. So that's a little fun fact, but yeah. So our office building, just for anyone who's not aware, 740 Union street, across from Union College is. And right next door to Gleason's Funeral Home. So if you guys need anything. [00:05:45] Speaker A: From Gleason's. [00:05:46] Speaker B: No, from us, Stop on by. I would hope you don't need anything from Gleason's anytime soon, so. But yeah. [00:05:55] Speaker A: Oh, I thought you were gonna ask me about my week. Miles and days with you being gone. [00:05:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. How's it going? I'm sure you miss me. Sure. Everybody misses me at the Gazette. And my, My noisiness that came with me. [00:06:07] Speaker A: It's. It's quiet. But the, the reason why it's quiet is not your. Your. Your joyful, filling personality of any room you enter. But we've had changes. So we're. We're kind of like. We're like a six man football team. We usually play with 11 right now, so six person. So we're getting. We're getting re upped here as we speak and things like that. So that'll be better. That'll fill the rule a little bit better. And you know, we're splitting a lot of duties and still have vacations and stuff. Yeah, the business editor thing. Yeah. It's nuts. [00:06:44] Speaker B: Isn'T it? A lot to keep track of. Especially bite sizes. Is a lot to keep track of. [00:06:49] Speaker A: Insane. It is insane. So a big thing about bite size, Obviously, is your October 4th event. [00:06:56] Speaker B: Yes. [00:06:56] Speaker A: Which is the infamous wing walk, which we enjoyed together in the past. Were we there last year? Were there two years ago? [00:07:04] Speaker B: I don't know that I've ever actually gone to. I think we've covered it, but I didn't cover it. We didn't really participate. [00:07:09] Speaker A: And your judges. [00:07:10] Speaker B: Yeah, just because, like, I think that was back when I was a Saturday reporter. [00:07:14] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:07:14] Speaker B: When I first started off here. [00:07:16] Speaker A: And we know a lot of that. We got there and I know I was there last year, did a lot of tastings and I did not. Did not disappoint. [00:07:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Did not go last year. Primarily because I was covering Saratoga Springs. And Saratoga Springs is a beast in itself. And so I like to not see people on my weekends. I like to stay very close to home and not in crowded spaces. [00:07:41] Speaker A: That's changing. [00:07:43] Speaker B: That is changing a lot. Gotta get used to. I'm learning a lot of names, so I just want to. I say this to everybody when I meet them too. And I will say this on the podcast. If I meet you and then I meet you again, and then I meet you for a third or a fourth time, and I still don't remember your name, but I haven't met you consecutively, like, four days in a row, I'm not going to remember, and I apologize. It is a work in progress. There are a lot of business owners, there are a lot of officials to remember and meet. And I will be the first to tell you that I just am not good at names and faces yet. [00:08:16] Speaker A: So you're going to join the stand. The stand clause of. Hey, how you doing? [00:08:20] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. And I mean, it took it. When you switch, like, being in the news industry, you have to learn names pretty quickly, but it still takes a little bit of time. Like, I don't think I really fully got down a number of people in Saratoga Springs when I was covering them until about the second year end. And then you're like, oh, yeah, so and so. And like, you know, and then there are still people that get brought up from time to time. I mean, there's been times I've talked to people three, four times on the phone, but if I've never met you in person and then I meet you in person, I go, oh, like you're going to get one of those. [00:08:54] Speaker A: So, like, do you want to talk about October 4th? We want to talk about September 29th. [00:08:58] Speaker B: Hmm. It's on September 29th. [00:09:01] Speaker A: Oh, it's actually a high holy day for Chandler. [00:09:05] Speaker B: Yes, It's National Coffee Day. [00:09:07] Speaker A: It is. [00:09:09] Speaker B: Yeah. If you're doing anything National Coffee Day wise, please let me know. Specifically me, because one, I can promote you, but two, I need to make a list of places I will be stopping. [00:09:20] Speaker A: Yeah, we are efforting that on your behalf at the Daily Gazette. [00:09:26] Speaker B: Why, thank you. [00:09:26] Speaker A: Where we plan on having a big splash on Sunday. Oh, Ms. Pun on Facebook. And I give you a splash for coffee on Sunday. And because it's always best, it's always a splash of almond milk with a Splenda packet. So that's where. So that's planned for Sunday. We are efforting. Tom Denopoulos is up at Uncommon Grounds talking to people about their coffee journeys and what they like in their coffee. I spent the morning at Buds on J. Again, someplace I hadn't been. So the five place. [00:09:57] Speaker B: I also have heaven penned and it's on the list. This job is going to get me into a lot of businesses in downtown that I have not been in in the five years I've lived in the city. So. [00:10:06] Speaker A: So as we record this, this is actually my fourth cup of coffee today. [00:10:10] Speaker B: You might need to stop after this because this is really like two. [00:10:14] Speaker A: Yes, I've. Yeah, this might be one where you would get a word in edgewise again because of this. So I was there talking to some people, stopped by 518 for the rider because Shannon has to have coffee with every podcast. That's the rider. That has to happen. And then I will be out. [00:10:32] Speaker B: Listen, I don't make the rules, I just enforce them. [00:10:35] Speaker A: And then I will be out in Fulton county tomorrow for a stop there. I will stop at seven Brute because I have to find out what they're doing for promotions day. But I will be probably a second win tomorrow to talk to those people. So we're going to do something on that on Sunday. And we have contacted our coffee vendors people in Saratoga county yesterday. The editorial assistant is working on the Schenectady list today. Rita is creating the list for me so I can email those out. And then we'll do Fulton Montgomery after that. And I can't speak for the Hudson Valley yet because we're not sure because of their pub dates. We'd have to have it done earlier or it'd be late. But that's like, kind of what's consumed me the last 24 hours. But we are all very familiar with wing walk, and that has consumed me. Yes, you are. You are. You are the big chicken, I think, you know, I think is Maureen the rooster, and then you're the chicken in this deal or for October 4th. [00:11:45] Speaker B: I think we're all different. [00:11:47] Speaker A: Are you tired of chicken yet? [00:11:49] Speaker B: Oh, my God. I eat so much chicken. You know, I eat a lot of chicken on a daily basis between ground chicken and chicken breast and chicken thighs and, like, there's a lot of chicken in my life, but I will never say no to chicken wings. It's just a different. It's like, I don't know, it's like. [00:12:02] Speaker A: Chicken, chicken, different animal. [00:12:04] Speaker B: I don't know. But it is a different level of chicken. But I just learned a fun fact that, like, chicken wings for the longest time were just considered garbage portions of the wings until they became significantly popular. Yeah. No. And imagine how many chickens you have to go through in order to get chicken wings because they only come with two wings each chicken. [00:12:25] Speaker A: Or maybe some lab out there doing something. [00:12:27] Speaker B: But when they talk about, like, the billions that are eaten on, like, super bowl weekend, which is, like, usually the biggest chicken wing day of the year, though in Schenectady, it's the chicken wing walk, like, it's billions. Billion. So it's a lot of chicken. A lot of chicken. [00:12:44] Speaker A: It's probably come through your fridge at one point or time. [00:12:46] Speaker B: It probably has. Certain. It has. [00:12:51] Speaker A: So to keep it controversial. Wing. Yeah, I'm sorry. Leg or flat? [00:12:59] Speaker B: Drum or flat? [00:13:00] Speaker A: You mean drum or flat? [00:13:01] Speaker B: So we're going to get into that part of one of the things we are doing to promote this. And we have some hot topics, some polls we'll be taking on on our Wing Walk page that we want people to participate in because we want to know your thoughts. We've also asked our judges these three questions so you'll get their take on it. And Maureen and I have already had a little bit of a debate in this office regarding one of them. So we have not covered the other two, but we have covered one. [00:13:29] Speaker A: So are some of these topics saucy? [00:13:32] Speaker B: Yes. I'll tell you right now that they are. Drummer flap, blue cheese or ranch. [00:13:40] Speaker A: Those are fighting words with you. [00:13:42] Speaker B: Yep. And sauce or dry rubber. [00:13:45] Speaker A: Okay. [00:13:45] Speaker B: The. All the hot topics that you can have when it comes to a chicken wing. So let's talk about. [00:13:50] Speaker A: Let's. This is your show now. We're in your. Your house. So let's go. Let's. I don't want to chicken out on the podcast. [00:13:58] Speaker B: Oh, God. You got to be better. So Wing Walk is going to take place Saturday, October 4, from 11 to 4pm A lot of people will notice that this year we've actually extended it by an hour. Don't ask me why. I don't know. I'm assuming it's just so popular. And I would say that because this year we had 2,500 tickets for sale and they sold out and like all sold out within about less than a week, six days or so. So that just tells you how much, like how very popular this event is and continues to be. And it's popular among our businesses and it's that participate in this. And I say businesses cause it's not just restaurants. We do actually have Madam Jane's. The. The cannabis dispensary has Ruggiero's food truck coming in this year to do their wings so that they can participate in this. Armory Studios is always a participant in the numerous events that we do. And they always do like some sort of food or bring in food for that, though it's not their. The primary thing that they do there either. Little shout out for Art of the Bricks still ongoing. So if you're looking for something fun to do, that is something you can do at Armory Studios. Tickets are available for that still. But yeah, I mean it's. It continues to be something that a lot of businesses participate in. We have 23 in total this year. So just to highlight a couple of the new places, Boulevard bowl, the bowling alley on Airy Boulevard is joining us this year. And Lilly Peas, which technically has not opened yet, but should be soon. And Lilly Peas, if you guys remember from when I worked at the Gizat, we did highlight this Bashir over at Simone's is opening up another location in Schenectady and we're so excited about that. So they are going to have Lily Peas, which is the concept behind this is great. They're going to be doing artisanal pizzas and apparently we are also doing wings, which I don't remember that from our original conversation, but happy to that that is happening. And I feel like they usually go hand in hand and that, you know, they'll be serving some food at Frog Alley. And the reason they went with Lily peas is because Lily P is Lily pad. A lily pad looks like a pizza with a slice taken out. It's great marketing for them. Excited to hear what they have in store. And I did not write down their their item this year, but I can pull it up real quick. [00:16:27] Speaker A: I'm the art of the podcast. We troll and will we take out this pause looks us up. [00:16:32] Speaker B: Give me a minute. The computer was on so I'll come back to what Lilly Peas is doing. And I know Boulevard bowl is going to get mentioned because they're doing, you know, we're going to have some traditional flavors this year. And when I talk traditional, I mean it's like third take on traditional flavors. And I can't get more traditional with a wing than Buffalo chicken. My computer apparently doesn't want to turn on though, then Buffalo chicken wings. So Boulevard bowl is doing a traditional twice cooked Buffalo wings. And then I'm certain that this is a Buffalo chicken wing flavor because the name is Ralph Wilson, the original recipe. And if you're familiar, Ralph Wilson was the founder of the Buffalo Bills team. Buffalo Bills, Buffalo, known for the Buffalo Chicken wing. So I'm certain that center, that is what Center Street Pub is doing. And that post actually just just went up. So I'll be looking to get, as my joke is on the post, get into the Wing Walk hall of fame with this and then give me two seconds. [00:17:39] Speaker A: This is where editing becomes key. [00:17:43] Speaker B: The Louis Peas is doing fire roasted Jammy Bacon barbecue wings. [00:17:52] Speaker A: So that sounds really, once again, Bashir with Simone's is coming with something like where you scratch your head going in because they've done it with soup stroll, things like that. It's the head scratcher. And then you taste it and you're like, oh, where's this been all my life? Like, where did they come up with this? Tastes so good. So. [00:18:12] Speaker B: And I mean, they're not the only one doing some bold flavors this year. So Johnny's is gonna do a salted caramel apple chicken wing. Yes. And Hunters on J is doing a sticky tandoori spiced wings. So a lot of new, interesting flavors this year. A few traditionals in there. We have all three of last year's winners or are back this year. So the people's choice went to Nest with their lemon pepper parm or. No, they're doing lemon pepper parm this year. Last year they did Nashville garlic parm wings. Yaya's did Yaya's family smothered wings last year. This year they're doing the whole kit and caboodle. Got no idea, no idea what this chicken wing could be. But apparently it's the whole kit and caboodle. And then the sauce and rub went to Simone's for their sticky sumac and pomegranate barbecue wings. This year, they're gonna face off with the nest a little bit because Simone's this year is doing Greek style lemon pepper parm. So two of last year's winners doing sort of similar takes on chicken wings. So it'll be interesting to see how they. How they fare this year. I'd be remiss, too, if I didn't throw this out there. That this. And this event is sponsored by Pioneer bank and Rivers Casino, who are helping to supply some of the judges for this year's competition. So Pioneer, Claudia Brown of the Schenectady branch, the manager there, she is going to be a judge. And then Christo Cornick, the director of facilities for Rivers Casino, is another judge. And then our third judge is Ben Sadler, who we are so thankful for because he does downtown custom printwear and he prints all of the T shirts for the events. And so. Yeah, and speaking of T shirts, just to get that out there, because I know a lot of people have been emailing and asking us because we are out of tickets. We do have some T shirts for sale at the event. Some T shirts, please. If you need a T shirt, do expect to arrive early to try and get one, because it's not like we have a ton of these to sell. [00:20:27] Speaker A: So it was under limited number. [00:20:28] Speaker B: Yes, yes, it is a first come, first serve basis for those T shirts. And it'll be at proctors. It's where you will find us, which is where all of this starts. So, yeah, I think that. I think that really highlights everything I had in my notes for the first time for doing a podcast ever. [00:20:46] Speaker A: First time doing notes for a podcast. [00:20:48] Speaker B: First time doing notes for a podcast. Not first time doing a podcast or taking notes from said podcast. Because we got a lot of notes on our podcast, but a lot of people got a lot of things to say. But yeah, I mean, I didn't highlight all the flavors, but you'll see them. We have plans to do two a day until we are done with all 23. I think that puts us through the 27th. So through September 27th on the events page. So be on the lookout for that. We will also be further highlighting the judges. You'll get see photographs of who they are. So just please understand that your ticket does not allow you to skip the line. I just want to emphasize that premium tickets do not allow you to skip the line. The judges are in a different category because the judges, in the span of time that we give them 11 to 4, have to taste every wing and vote and get that information back to us so we can put out who the winners are on our social media and to the press. And so again, emphasizing your premium ticket. [00:21:54] Speaker A: Thank you for purchasing. [00:21:56] Speaker B: Thank you for purchasing. We appreciate it. Can't wait to see your T shirt. Does not let you skip the line. [00:22:03] Speaker A: You need to have the judges tag as. Shannon is very versed in who busted through like a fullback going through the Buffalo Bill's offensive line to make room for Stan to make sure we tasted 30 something soups. Yeah, you were like busting through like. [00:22:24] Speaker B: And I was apologizing. And a lot of our judges would. [00:22:26] Speaker A: Do the same when you did. [00:22:28] Speaker B: Yeah. Which is why we will promote who they are so you can be very familiar with them. [00:22:33] Speaker A: That's the only reason why. [00:22:34] Speaker B: But I cannot emphasize enough because that your ticket, you're buying the premium ticket gets you the ticket and the ballot. The T shirt and a wing. A wing. A chocolate wing from our friends at Bittersweet. It does not get you skipping the line. Every. You're all waiting in the line. I'll be waiting in the line. My ticket that I have doesn't let. Even though I work for the people, putting this on does not let me skip the line. I'm not a judge, so, you know, like, just keep that in mind. Lines are going to be long it is going to take a minute to get through. There are lots of other things. Restaurants will be packed. We expect more than 2500 people to turn out for this, and we hoped more than 25 people turn out for this and that. You visit your restaurants and you have lunch and dinner and drinks, and maybe you stop into some of the shops on J Street or some of the other local businesses. Like, this is what it's about. It's not just for the chicken wings. Yes, that is a huge part of it, but it's also to promote every single other business in this district. So just keep that in mind. It's going to be packed. And you cannot skip the lie. No jumping the lie. I will emphasize that from now until. [00:23:49] Speaker A: Stay in the coop. [00:23:50] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:23:52] Speaker A: So do you want to announce the special guest, or am I announcing the special guest for Wing Walk? [00:23:57] Speaker B: Oh, yes. And, you know, obviously, the podcast has continued as a partnership between DSIC and me and Stan at the Gazette, and we are so grateful that we will have Newsy there this year. So if you see Newsy, the Daily Gazette's mascot giant newspaper, you can't miss it. Please feel free to say hi, take photos, tag us in them. We love to see it. And we may have another. Another friend from the improv group joining us as well. Hopefully a chicken. I think we got a chicken. We're getting a chicken. Maybe they'll bring a potato out, too. We'll see. We'll see. But ye follow along for all of that fun in our events page, where we continue to promote all of those things. I don't know what else I've missed covering here. I think I've hit all the notes. And again, one more thank you to our sponsors, Partner bank and Brewers Casino. Got to keep that going, you know. [00:24:58] Speaker A: So just for the record, this is our 33rd podcast, maybe 34th. Maybe this is the only time you brought a full page of notes. [00:25:05] Speaker B: Yeah, I did. [00:25:09] Speaker A: So you're stepping up your game. [00:25:10] Speaker B: I had to make sure I hit on certain things. There's a lot to highlight with this. This wing walk. There is a lot to do with this wing walk. And I just want to emphasize that to everyone, too. I don't think that people realize the amount of effort it takes to put this on, so. And, you know, I'm Jess coming on. So Maureen and Gail here have been handling a lot of this. And thank you to them, you know, and thank you to everyone who's going to help clean up after this. And just a friendly reminder to please use the Trash receptacles. Please don't leave your trash everywhere in downtown Schenectady. I mean, we have people who will be cleaning that up, but it's just like, let's remember to be kind and polite on wing walk day. There's going to be a lot going on. Like I said, it's going to be busy. It is going to be like the soup stroll. And if you're driving, remember, people will be crossing streets. [00:25:59] Speaker A: Crossing State Street. [00:26:01] Speaker B: Yes, people will be crossing State Street. We're crossing Erie Boulevard, probably to get the Boulevard Bowl. So just keep all of those things in mind. And the fun does not have to end after 4pm Please feel free to stick around and go to many of the businesses in our area. You know, chicken wing. I don't know about you guys. 23 chicken wings I think will fill me up. I might want to stop for a salad somewhere afterwards. [00:26:24] Speaker A: I was going to say a little better, but, like, our shared chicken wing experience for the various birthdays. [00:26:31] Speaker B: I think I did 13. [00:26:33] Speaker A: Yeah, you're a solid dozen. [00:26:35] Speaker B: But you're also walking. [00:26:36] Speaker A: So, like, we thought about that on the soup stroll, too. [00:26:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:26:39] Speaker A: But it got kind of. We got kind of fold and needed a break and things like that. [00:26:43] Speaker B: Yeah. I have certain ones that I definitely know I want to. I want to try some of the apple ones and there's a couple places that are doing. So Johnny's and Backstage Pub is doing a apple pie, a word I can't pronounce. Barbecue with a crispy apple pie. Chop something. Sorry, guys. I'm still looking at the. At the little thing I told us all this apple chops. So I don't know, but the apple ones sound really good. It is the fall season. I am a lover of fall. It's probably my favorite season. And so I want to try some of those. But I also, like, there's just a lot of good flavors this year and I, I feel like I'm gonna. I want to try all of them. I don't think I'll make it to all of them. I also shout out for all the fun names this year. There's not a funniest name category, but we have had some fun names. The Kitten Caboodle. The unlikely winners From Armory Studio 20 north is doing a bada bang wing. Yeah. So it's just, it's, you know, tropical Fire. Like, that's a great name. So a lot of fun with the names this year. I think that's just so they can try and keep their recipes as hidden as Possible. Which is always fun. [00:27:57] Speaker A: Right. So just for judging, too, the ballots, where you have. You have the judges pick. Right. Which is what the judges will choose and then the public chooses. [00:28:07] Speaker B: Right. [00:28:07] Speaker A: There's. [00:28:08] Speaker B: Yeah. So, I mean, again, the categories are People's Choice, Most Creative and Best Sauce and Rub. [00:28:13] Speaker A: Okay. [00:28:13] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:14] Speaker A: So every vote counts. [00:28:16] Speaker B: Every vote does count. Yes. So try to make sure you get to all of them. [00:28:20] Speaker A: So you get multiple election nights now with dsic. [00:28:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:24] Speaker A: Waiting for the results to come in. Hitting refresh. [00:28:27] Speaker B: Yes. And like I said, there will be an announcement on our social media pages, so if you're not following along with that, you should be. And then also we'll be sending out a press release, so hopefully our friends in the news media, of which I formally am of, will pick that up and make that announcement out there as well. So we're looking forward to just another great year of the wing walk. Though I. I have to say that, though I have not. I've not been in this position last year, but DSIC as a whole is looking forward to another great year of the wing walk. And I'm excited to see a lot of you guys out there. I'm excited to see you wearing the T shirt, which I did not note that we did run a contest for that this year. And so, Kevin, I'm not even going to try to pronounce your last name. Kevin W. You did a fantastic job. I just want to note that. So Stan and I, when we were discussing potentially entering, literally had the same idea. We didn't put the words on it, but we had just about the same thing. Yeah, we had the same thing. [00:29:31] Speaker A: We couldn't deliver the way Kevin did. [00:29:33] Speaker B: No, we could not. [00:29:33] Speaker A: Kevin, knock it out of the park. [00:29:35] Speaker B: Yeah. So I'm excited to see everybody in those T shirts you saw. Clock. That one was not good. [00:29:43] Speaker A: I couldn't come up with anything. I'm like, home run. I'm like, you know what it is? You know what Kevin did? You know what? Kevin is crowned as winner. Winner, chicken dinner. [00:29:54] Speaker B: Ha. At least that was better. [00:29:56] Speaker A: Thank you. [00:29:57] Speaker B: That was much better. So, yeah. So you know, wing walk again, just a reminder, October 4th, 11 to 4. Lots of parking downtown. [00:30:04] Speaker A: Okay. Ready? Three things. [00:30:06] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:07] Speaker A: One is what are we going to talk about next time? Because this is a monthly, possibly bi weekly. So once. Once you get. Once you get your wings done. [00:30:18] Speaker B: Yeah. More than likely it'll be the next other. So we don't have an. We don't have an upcoming event yet that we really like, host and put on like we do the wing walk, but we are promoting. [00:30:31] Speaker A: Promoting. [00:30:32] Speaker B: Yes. [00:30:32] Speaker A: Yep. [00:30:32] Speaker B: Yep. We are promoting Nightmare Market. So that would be next up to talk about. And if I'm not mistaken, that's October 18th. Yes. So more than likely we'll be trying to get her on to discuss that and everything that's coming with it. And so we're super excited about that. And then after that, we have lots of things coming up. So there is. Yeah, so there's a parade. The holiday parade's coming up. [00:31:02] Speaker A: I don't announce that. Can we. No. Okay. All right. There's going to be a parade. [00:31:08] Speaker B: There's going to be a parade. [00:31:09] Speaker A: It's going to be a parade again. [00:31:11] Speaker B: It's going to be a parade again. As many of you know, Stan and I did emcee the second stage, which is technically the first stage they go have for last year's parade, and possibly an announcement coming out coming on that soon. Very hopeful and anticipating, still being part of the parade in some fashion this year. And hopefully if we do have a stage, Maureen will have to storm it again. Please don't come on our stage. [00:31:42] Speaker A: Yep. Yeah. Different arrangements this year. So that was 1, 2 is. How different is it sending out the pressers than it is just like seeing stuff land in your email. [00:31:55] Speaker B: So today I logged in to see myself quoted in the cassette and I was like, this is kind of weird. I haven't had too many people call me yet for direct quotes. But it is. This is a different undertaking. I am, you know, and I've indicated this to Maureen, hoping to bring in a little bit more that journalistic view in some of the things we write. So you might notice, like five winning coffee, the press release, you know, I tried to include as much detail in that as possible. I wanted to make it so that you didn't email me with questions on the weekend that I probably don't have the answer to. So I tried to get those answers ahead of time. It's just. It is weird. It's gonna take a little bit more getting used to for that. But I'm having a lot of fun. I love journalism, you know that. But this is way less stressful. I have set hours now. I go home. I have evenings to myself. I don't have to worry about 8 million meetings all the time. So, I mean, there's meetings, but they're not 8 million meetings that are all dramatically dramatic. So. [00:33:02] Speaker A: So there's a. There's a. The old adage that as much as things change, they stay the same. So we Are still together. [00:33:11] Speaker B: Yes. [00:33:12] Speaker A: Which I'm grateful for. [00:33:14] Speaker B: Can't get rid of me yet. [00:33:15] Speaker A: I'm so happy that a. You agreed and a million times thankful that Maureen gave you the green light because you had a boss, you gained a boss. Yeah, we kind of just. Just did our thing and they're like, ah, that's Dan and Chen. Just let them go. Yeah, you know, we're like, as I say, we're like, Jordan, you can't stop us. You're holding up to contain it. [00:33:34] Speaker B: So this. She's been a big proponent of it from the very beginning. I mean, she. She wanted us to continue doing this as much as we wanted to continue doing this. It is a great partnership to have. It only allows us to better highlight all of the amazing things that are happening in downtown Schenectady. And I mean, right now, you know, our focus has been because we have a lot of events coming up, but down the line, it'll be, you know, bringing on businesses and to talk to about, you know, what they're doing, what they have coming up, or just a little bit more about the businesses in our area, which is, you know, really significant for you, too, as business editor and takes a little bit of that off your plate from having to schedule all. All of those things or get those things together, because now I play that role. So, I mean, it's just. It's. It's been. It's been great. And, you know, I am thankful that I have such a great boss. I'm trying to win brownie points. No, I'm just kidding. I don't have to. Yeah, great. We have a great relationship. But, yeah, no, it's been a lot of fun. And I'm just looking forward to just getting to dive in more to some of these events and coming up with some new ones, hopefully some more things to get people into downtown Schenectady because. And I said this, you know, when I interviewed is this place holds its own. You know, when you talk about the capital region, a lot of people will square in on Saratoga Springs because it's touristy or, you know, a little outside of the capital region, but still capital. Lake George or Troy, because that thing is going on, or Albany, because they are known for a lot of their events. I feel like sometimes people forget that Schenectady has really great events going on. And I still think that there is a lot of stigmata Schenectady and that perhaps it isn't safe or isn't great. And that's not the case. It really isn't Schenectady has come a significantly long way. And just sort of to hearken back on what the Gazette's doing, I think you'll notice that in the, in the 25 year 10 week series initiative they have going on, you know, looking at the past, the present and the future, are there things that still need to be worked on? Yes, there are always things you can work on. And anybody who says they're done working on something isn't doing it right. There are always things that can be fixed and changed and bettered. [00:35:46] Speaker A: And as the ambulance goes, such a poignant moment from Shannon about how Brace connected he is. We're going to get barked at because like, yeah, then the ambulance went by. [00:35:58] Speaker B: Yeah. But do you know that the majority of ambulance calls are usually. Is not usually like a crime scene or a car accident or anything like that. It's just, it could be, you know, an older citizen in our area having complications due to health. So just want to point that out. But yes, if I can feel safe walking in Schenectady, you can feel safe walking in Schenectady. It is a great place to be. We have a great working relationship with our fire and police officials, you know, and they continue to make sure that we have a safe community. And, you know, I, I like to give a lot of credit to a lot of our businesses too, because it is a very welcoming community and there are so many business owners who are willing to, you know, help in any way that they can. So, like, one of the things is highlighting and I just shared this, the Whistle and Kettle partnering with the United Way. And they're doing, you know, if you purchase some tea, there portions of that go to support the United Way. So there's just a lot of great things going on in our community and I think sometimes that gets a little lost in the shuffle because we're in such a prominent area and we're surrounded by so many other great communities too. [00:37:10] Speaker A: So as you know, I will be remiss if I don't say for the millionth time how much I appreciate you as a podcast partner. Former coworker. [00:37:21] Speaker B: Don't get all emotional. [00:37:22] Speaker A: I mean, not. We're done with that though. That. That's done. That's done. But as much as things change, they say the same one is Shannon must have coffee for the podcast. And what would a podcast, a Stand and Shen podcast be without gifts? [00:37:37] Speaker B: Oh, goodness. So I don't have any gifts for you. You can take us. [00:37:40] Speaker A: You never have gifts. [00:37:41] Speaker B: Do you want a Schenectady sticker and a brochure. I've not handed any out yet, but. [00:37:45] Speaker A: Since summer's officially over. And this was so fitting with your new roll and the season for your desk as she unwraps it. [00:38:00] Speaker B: This is. That's good. I like that. That's funny. [00:38:05] Speaker A: So this is. [00:38:06] Speaker B: Maureen's gonna be a little jealous she doesn't have one. [00:38:08] Speaker A: Correct. So this is if you've been to Michael's. They have skeletons are hot now. [00:38:13] Speaker B: Oh, they are. [00:38:13] Speaker A: They are. So we have a skeleton with some funky boots on, but has big boots. Big boots that has the light hair, the ginger hair, carrying the big tumbler, the big pink tumbler. [00:38:28] Speaker B: I appreciate that. It's pink, so it matches my blinds a little bit in here. [00:38:31] Speaker A: And a cell phone. So it was, like, so fitting for you even before you left. [00:38:37] Speaker B: It's very on trend, too, with the fanny pack. I don't know if we. You can't tell how. It's not how you pick it. [00:38:43] Speaker A: I'll put a picture up. [00:38:44] Speaker B: Wear the fanny pack. [00:38:45] Speaker A: The other, you know, kind of news we brought is with this new generation 2.0 is, you know, we're always. The Stan and Shen show is available on all your streaming platforms, but we're now adding YouTube, where you can listen to us and a slideshow of stuff. So here's a wing walk. We'll have photos of you eating wings at one point in time. We'll have you holding up your new gift. [00:39:11] Speaker B: That's always a good idea of me eating wings. [00:39:14] Speaker A: Yeah, we've got photos still had to fill in there. So it's just not going to be the static logo. We started that just with the newest iteration of Stan and Friends. With your heartbreaking departure, I was left onto my own devices. So I had to have this week. First week was the bride, the wife filled in as friends. And this week I had three people fill in for you on a podcast because you were here. So three people. Three people had to fill. So just as I say for business editor, I took a size 12 to fill a size 7 after you left. Now, three people had to be on stand and friends to get me through a half an hour there because I couldn't carry it by myself. [00:39:53] Speaker B: So I did almost forget regarding wing Walk. Yes, October 4th, we did. Just to go back to earlier. Yes. We have had debates in this office already. Maureen is pro ranch on her wings. I am anti ranch. I'm pro blue cheese. Yes. It's our first disagreement in the office. I don't know how to feel about it. There was a little side eye given. [00:40:14] Speaker A: I just want to note something we said. Things don't change. It's still standing. Shannon Gmail. You can reach out to S. You have an easier but still difficult email to get in touch with you. [00:40:26] Speaker B: Yes. So if you want to reach out to me, especially if you're a business owner or you want to know a little bit more about what we do in the district or upcoming things or you want to get on our newsletter list, you can reach out to infoowntownscenectady.org or. My email is Shenandoah. Spell my name for you. S H E N A N d as in dog o a h@downtown schenectady.org so feel free to reach out to me if you guys have things that are coming up. If you're a new business in the area, you're wondering who to reach out to for some promotions or to do a grand opening slash ribbon cutting, I'm your girl. Yeah. Or if you just need to know a little bit more about what's going on in the area. But please don't reach out to me for Wing Walk tickets. We don't have any. I'm just gonna put that out there right now. I can't get you any. We got none there. We know Wing Walk tickets, they went quick. And we hope you remember this for next year. [00:41:27] Speaker A: All right, I'm gonna sign off because we're in your house, so you get to finish it out. So I'm gonna depart. [00:41:34] Speaker B: We have no sign off. We can just sign off together. [00:41:37] Speaker A: We're gonna sign off together? [00:41:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Cause I have no funds sign off for you. I have no fun chicken wing fact off the top of my head at. [00:41:44] Speaker A: The moment, you're fully plucked out of ideas. [00:41:48] Speaker B: No, all the ideas have been plucked out of me. [00:41:51] Speaker A: We'll leave it at that. Say goodbye. [00:41:55] Speaker B: All right. Goodbye. [00:41:56] Speaker A: Goodbye.
