[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hi, I'm Stan.
[00:00:02] Speaker B: And I'm Shen.
[00:00:03] Speaker A: And each week we bring you the Stan and Shen Show.
And each week, we talk about fun things through our travels throughout the capital region. We touch on food, we touch on news, try to touch heavily on good news. And Shen's always available with hot takes.
[00:00:20] Speaker B: Yeah. So if you could follow along and listen to us every week on DailyGazette.com or on all major streaming platforms, we'd love to have you join us. Are we ready? Can I start? Can I open?
[00:00:31] Speaker A: You can.
[00:00:32] Speaker B: Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening.
I'm the better half of the podcast.
[00:00:39] Speaker A: Which I don't say.
[00:00:41] Speaker B: Yeah, but everybody knows it. I'm Shen.
[00:00:44] Speaker A: I'm Stan.
[00:00:45] Speaker B: We did our intro backwards, but it's fine.
Yeah, apparently I'm being too sassy today.
[00:00:51] Speaker A: You are. You're full of sass.
[00:00:54] Speaker B: But is this over the typewriter to comment earlier.
[00:00:57] Speaker A: We're still going back to yesterday with.
[00:00:59] Speaker B: Your Stan's first computer today inside the Bass Pro shop for the media event, but we'll get to that later.
[00:01:06] Speaker A: We're not getting. No, we're not.
[00:01:09] Speaker B: We might.
[00:01:11] Speaker A: So happy July 22nd. And you know why?
[00:01:14] Speaker B: This might not come out on July 22. But it was made on July 22.
[00:01:17] Speaker A: It was made on July 22. You know, I know July 22 is.
[00:01:20] Speaker B: Important because it's the publisher's birthday.
[00:01:24] Speaker A: I didn't know it was John's birthday.
[00:01:25] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm pretty certain it is. It was in the. When you clock in, which sometimes we do.
Every once in a blue moon, we do that. I'm not even sure if I actually did it today. If I just saw it. Oh, I did.
[00:01:34] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:01:35] Speaker B: Yeah. Today.
Oh, no, no, it's not his birthday. It's his 12th work anniversary.
[00:01:40] Speaker A: Okay. So happy anniversary to our publisher, John d'. Agostine. But we just missed Kate's birthday.
[00:01:45] Speaker B: Intern Kate, which she kept on the DL.
[00:01:47] Speaker A: She did. That was quiet. But anyway, today's the 22nd. We're recording on the 22nd.
[00:01:51] Speaker B: When we get out of here, I'm gonna go out there and start singing.
[00:01:53] Speaker A: We've got gifts for her.
[00:01:55] Speaker B: The discuss. You're gonna give her the blueberry pie Oreos as a gift. Please don't.
[00:01:59] Speaker A: We were gonna do that as a tasting, but that got shot down pretty quick. So happy July 22nd. It is the anniversary of our dear friends. And we can say this truthfully.
Rob and Lisa. Oh, 36.
[00:02:13] Speaker B: Yes. So are we celebrating with a Polish dinner or what are we doing?
[00:02:17] Speaker A: It's their day. It's their day. It's their day. But I want to wish them happy birthday. And we sent them the happy anniversary text very early this morning.
[00:02:24] Speaker B: Happy birthday.
[00:02:25] Speaker A: Or again. This is like the. The fourth and the third.
[00:02:28] Speaker B: You might be losing it.
[00:02:29] Speaker A: It's. It's. Well, it goes back to the typewriter. He goes. That first computer is on the fritz. So. Yeah. So they were married. We were all married in the same year together. We refer to as the summer of love.
So our good friends Chuck and Beth Rhodes are married in June.
Robin Lisa are married in July.
And myself and the bride were married in August.
[00:02:51] Speaker B: And we almost had something similar in our family. And everybody's gonna be married on, like, the eighth of the month or. No, it's gonna be like, the 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. It's like. It's gonna be something weird.
[00:03:02] Speaker A: We're like, that's a lot of work.
[00:03:04] Speaker B: And it. No, it worked out that way, surprisingly. Except one didn't happen.
[00:03:09] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:03:10] Speaker B: Which we shall not be talking about Runaway Bride. No.
[00:03:13] Speaker A: Okay.
Incarceration.
So it is.
So it's the summer of love.
And speaking of summer, you're already tired.
[00:03:23] Speaker B: I am.
[00:03:25] Speaker A: Summer's, like, halfway over. And you're like, I'm over summer.
Or you're just tired.
[00:03:30] Speaker B: I'm only halfway over. Cause mine ends in, like, August is, like, the last month of summer for me. September 1st hits. I'm fall all the way.
[00:03:37] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:03:38] Speaker B: Which is one of my favorite seasons. So. I hate summer. It's too hot.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: Speaking of summer, I hate winter.
So we took a week off from the podcast.
[00:03:48] Speaker B: We did. Because I was tired, and I'm still tired. I haven't regained any of that back.
[00:03:52] Speaker A: But we didn't take any time off. It's not like we were on. We were out of podcast reach. We were just going and going, going.
[00:03:59] Speaker B: No, but when I. We do go on vacation, we do take. I'm not recording.
[00:04:04] Speaker A: It'll be. We'll do a Stan and Friends episode.
[00:04:07] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:04:07] Speaker A: Because I won't have anything to do if you're gone.
[00:04:09] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:04:10] Speaker A: Well, forever. When you leave, it'll just. I'll have. I'd be, like, lamenting here. I'll just sit in here in the podcast room and play with the mixer. And I wish Sven was here.
[00:04:18] Speaker B: Could get a typewriter again.
[00:04:21] Speaker A: Get a computer back in here.
[00:04:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:04:24] Speaker A: Cha ching, ding, ding.
But since we are still talking about summer, we're talking about summer night, which is kind of where we left off last podcast and went to summer night and really pretty much had a blast.
[00:04:39] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, it was nice in the beginning. Then all the crowds came, which. Then I just stayed at the table, which was nice. I did not venture out into the crowds. I'm not a crowdspeople, but I'll sit at a table.
[00:04:49] Speaker A: You were. You were a trooper. I was. So you helped out so much being at the table and talking to everybody.
[00:04:55] Speaker B: There's a lot of people.
[00:04:56] Speaker A: Just for the record, the glow sticks were ahead.
[00:04:59] Speaker B: Oh, the glow sticks are phenomenal. I love, I love that you and Rita paid for those.
That's very nice of you guys to do. In case you're wondering, the glow sticks were not sponsored by the Daily Gazette, though they were at the Daily Gazette table. They were sponsored by Stan and Rita. Rita being Stan's lovely wife who sat there and put the little QR codes on for our podcast on the two packs that we gave out. Which was what, like 400?
[00:05:24] Speaker A: 400.
[00:05:24] Speaker B: Yeah. So you're welcome, everybody. I hope you enjoyed those.
[00:05:27] Speaker A: But you look like you had fun at the table. Love look like you had fun at the table.
[00:05:31] Speaker B: I did. There's some nice, interesting people that stopped by. Which reminds me on this podcast to have my. My little chagrin about this one. One individual. Nope. I talked about it on Facebook and I'm going to mention it again because.
[00:05:45] Speaker A: We, the comments and opinions of the Stan and Shen show do not represent those of the Daily Gazette. They are ours and ours alone. Carry on.
[00:05:51] Speaker B: Yes.
Although I think that the opinion that we should support local news is fully endorsed by the Daily Gazette.
[00:05:57] Speaker A: It is. It's just the venom that follows your explanation sometimes. Or your plea gets a little rough on the edges.
[00:06:07] Speaker B: I'm just saying I find it highly inappropriate for us to be at what is supposed to be a fun, family oriented event for people to come up to our table where we are giving away numerous items to complain that we aren't giving away the paper for free.
I just, and I mean this in the most respectful, non respectful way possible.
Do you work for free? Have you worked for free? If the answer to that is no, which it should be no, then we don't either. Our journalists deserve to be paid for their work. You Pay for Artists CDs and or downloads. You pay for concert tickets to go see your favorite artist. You pay for photographs that you see in a store. You pay for items in a store. All of that goes back to the people who make those items. We make this paper. We write these articles. No, they are not free. No, the archived ones are not free.
We deserve to be paid for our work.
[00:07:07] Speaker A: And we're cheap.
[00:07:09] Speaker B: And we're cheap.
We are very cheap.
[00:07:11] Speaker A: We can find. You can get us. So you can subscribe to the Daily Gazette even without a pro without a promotional rate which is a buck a.
[00:07:18] Speaker B: Week and I'm sorry for a buck a month sometimes if you feel that our paper has gotten started $over the years our costs have increased a hundred percent. We are consistently told that. I don't know if you know this, we get our paper from Canada not to get on some tariffs but we got tariffs coming.
So you know we are doing our best and it would just be a little nice if when we are out doing free public events where we are just giving out items. Speaking of which items that you paid for personally, you know and we are trying to have a good time that we are not inundated with people who are just continuously bashing us.
If you think we can do a better job, I highly recommend applying. Thank you.
On to the nicer things of summer night. The kids were fantastic.
[00:08:00] Speaker A: There's only the one that I know.
[00:08:02] Speaker B: Of but it happens time and time.
[00:08:04] Speaker A: It does. I think every time we do something I think you're always going to get one.
[00:08:08] Speaker B: And I'm sorry but I. How many people did not roll my eyes.
[00:08:11] Speaker A: How many? How many people. But we had a lot of people say they like us. A lot of people we did.
[00:08:14] Speaker B: And that was.
[00:08:15] Speaker A: And we thank them profusely.
[00:08:16] Speaker B: Yes. And that was great. And I do thank everyone who does subscribe to us who does support local journalism.
And I just note that, you know I like to hearken back to a few episodes ago where I talked about The Cortland Standard 8th oldest paper and and the country closing and when they closed and it was just for a very short time because they were eventually bought, that county suffered. And those people finally realized that to the point where when they did reopen under new ownership they were inundated with people wanting to buy ads with you know, people wanting to be part of that community conversation with the newspaper again. And I appreciate the work that this new company has been doing to get that paper back a live. But I asked you to think about this area. If this connectivity Gazette was no longer here after 130 years, how would you feel and take that with you this week?
Anyway, so thank you to our subscribers because you guys are thebomb.com and I appreciate all you and if I liked hugging individuals you'd probably all get a hug. But I don't like hugging individuals. So summer night other than that was fantastic. Oh, other than that and one other thing that we're not going to talk about on the podcast because it's a fun podcast. So this is supposed to be a fun podcast.
[00:09:26] Speaker A: But we had friends. We had friends. We had friends. Help. Help.
[00:09:30] Speaker B: Yes. We had friends who helped. So Heather, shout out to Heather Lant, who went over to Randy at o', Ryan, which is always fun for me to say Randy it Orion and got us a tent so we didn't die in the heat. That's our number one. Thank you, Kathy, who stopped by and still did a live stream, even though there was. We found out later. We found out later. Had no actual sound, but love the facial expressions.
[00:09:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:54] Speaker B: Thank you to Jason at the county for just being superb the whole night and helping us get a table and yelling at us when we first got there.
[00:10:01] Speaker A: Very yelling at you. Asking you where it was.
[00:10:03] Speaker B: Yeah. Asking me where I wanted the table where they were just going to drop it anywhere.
And for what I'm assuming will be an invite back to this connected holiday parade, it sounds like. So we'll keep you in the know on that.
And just generally anyone who stopped by the table, we had a fun little family come by towards the end who.
[00:10:21] Speaker A: Took a selfie with us.
[00:10:22] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, they took. They took a photo with us and they gave us a few free items of their own.
[00:10:26] Speaker A: Of their own that they picked up. So sweet.
[00:10:28] Speaker B: Yes. So I want to let you know that the stress ball is currently over in the stress relief area that I've created near my desk with all the other stress relief items along with the other little, like, it's like one of those things for, like, bubble wrap almost, but it's like a. A reusable one.
And so we appreciate that. That was fun. Thank you, everybody for taking the coloring books. I hope all the kids are enjoying.
[00:10:50] Speaker A: Yes, we had Newsy coloring books that went over really well in one of the gangbusters. Speaking of Newsy, Newsy made an appearance last week.
[00:10:57] Speaker B: Correct.
[00:10:57] Speaker A: In almost the same heat this summer night. Newsy was at the Fulton County Youth Day at the rail park in Gloversville. And Newsy was a trooper in 94 degree heat. A lot of fun photos. They're up on the Daily Gazette mascot. Newsy. Newsy, Daily Gazette mascot Facebook page.
So Newsy's looking to possibly make some more appearances later this year.
And again, like I said, we took a week off from the podcast, but we kept on working. And part of that work included going to new friend, I guess.
[00:11:33] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:11:34] Speaker A: In the Wilton Mall.
[00:11:35] Speaker B: Yes. And I'm so sorry, I apologize ahead of time if I butcher the name. But I believe it's pronounced Ferris Faraz.
[00:11:43] Speaker A: I think everyone said Faraz that we've talked to. Faraz.
[00:11:46] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:11:47] Speaker A: F A R A Z. We have the spelling Khan. Khan.
[00:11:49] Speaker B: Yeah. Got the spelling correct. It's the pronunciation that I always get nervous about and I know this from my own name and so I always preference by saying I may butcher it.
But Mr. Khan was a very nice man. It was great. He gave us way more time than I was anticipating. You know, when they originally asked us how much we, how much time we thought, you know, I said 45 minutes. You know, most times we can't even get that for interviews. Yeah, I think we spent what like an hour and a half. Two hours.
[00:12:17] Speaker A: Two hours. We were there for two hours inside.
[00:12:19] Speaker B: The old bonton which if you've ever seen photos of an old Olympic village, that's what it looked like.
[00:12:25] Speaker A: They have one of those lost civilization things on TikTok.
[00:12:29] Speaker B: Did it not feel apocalyptic, like post apocalyptic in there? When you looked inside you were like the remnants of what you.
[00:12:35] Speaker A: Well this, this goes back to the typewriter.
[00:12:38] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:39] Speaker A: Is that.
[00:12:40] Speaker B: Yeah, that was nicely and neatly placed on the desk inside a bathroom.
[00:12:43] Speaker A: I've created a lot of those horror shows that you saw.
[00:12:47] Speaker B: Just how I described it in the closing retailers. Yeah, just how I described it in the articles. We were looking in on this closed portion of the wall and it's fixt.
[00:12:56] Speaker A: Everywhere.
[00:12:57] Speaker B: I didn't even put that. There was like a tiny little Christmas tree just on one of the things, silver racks of what used to be, you know, have clothing on them and the old perfume counters which you know, if you've ever seen inside like a Macy's like looks just like that. Except Macy's is. It's full of life and this was not, but may soon be. And basically that's what our, our Sunday story was about.
And this whole concept where he's trying to bring back some of the malls in our area. He's. He's been doing a fantastic job which is where we were well nearby and then inside today to drop off the. The story to him. But Clifton Park Central Mall doing well do ask that you please work on the parking lot. Nudge, nudge, wink. We need some spaces anyway.
[00:13:43] Speaker A: Need some spaces, need some lining. We need some fixes.
[00:13:46] Speaker B: But you know, and that was part.
[00:13:47] Speaker A: Of the conversation and Faraz was very forthcoming on that.
[00:13:50] Speaker B: Yes. And that was not, you know, that was additional information that we had but wasn't necessarily included in the written person just because we had so much to.
[00:13:58] Speaker A: Cover, so much information.
[00:13:59] Speaker B: If you are wondering about the parking lot at Wilton Mall, he could invest a lot of money to fix the parking lot. Higher budget, the entire budget, or be.
[00:14:08] Speaker A: Perfectly flat and skateboardable. But then you'd have zero on the inside.
[00:14:11] Speaker B: Zero on the inside. And so he's going to work on fixing up things on the inside first patching where he can in the parking lots and that sort of stuff.
[00:14:19] Speaker A: And so yeah, and the one thing we did get that we got permission to put in there.
[00:14:23] Speaker B: And the carousel is coming back.
[00:14:25] Speaker A: Yes. How excited. People I've told about that were so exciting.
[00:14:28] Speaker B: Yes. Yeah. So and I had to look up this tidbit of information and go back to find this. But essentially the mall started off with a carousel which was eventually sold to a Florida based company, I believe in the early to mid 2000s.
And so it is, you know, harking back on, you know, what malls used to be in that mall culture. And the idea that families would spend time there and they'd come back and you know, that was just like part of it. But also Saratoga and horses in general. And you know, what I've heard from people who have read the story that they really love, that we touched upon was this personalization of he used to go to Wilton Mall and this was the store he wanted to go to that doesn't exist anymore in Wilton Mall. And then this sort of like this idea again of families coming back, like he went with his family and then how he's worked that through other locations he's owned, such as Colony Center. And I actually had a person who reached out to me and said that they love the line in the story on the ninth ask, which talks about him asking Clifton park supervisor Phil Barrett to dress up as Willy Wonka because he looked like Willy Wonka. And he asked him eight times and on the ninth ask he said he finally said yes.
So if that sort of talks to the relationship that he builds and the. And the communities he's in is, is he's very family oriented, very events oriented. And I will be intrigued to see what comes of the mall. I actually really like the mall. I told him personally I like the mall a little quieter. I can get all my shopping done at the places I want to go to.
[00:16:06] Speaker A: You don't like crowds, you want parking.
[00:16:08] Speaker B: Yes. Willow Mall is my favorite place right now.
But I get it. You know, it's a business. We want people to come back.
[00:16:17] Speaker A: It's a Vibe. It's exciting when people are there. And I mean it's undersell. Like Black Friday. People don't want to go out.
[00:16:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:16:23] Speaker A: But they want, you know, but then we have Super Saturday. We have, we have small Business Saturday. So you want to go out and support those locals. But, and I mean it was fun.
[00:16:29] Speaker B: Bringing in some, some local businesses and some national.
[00:16:32] Speaker A: He's got some plans.
[00:16:33] Speaker B: I really, I really like that. I think if, if more malls did that, they probably would survive because there is that push for local businesses. So there's a way to find that sort of middle ground between the two. I think you would see malls really come back to life.
[00:16:48] Speaker A: And part of that is, and I think I've had this conversation seven times and I don't think you were ever a part of it. So once again you're not surprised.
But I do apologize at least ahead of time. This time versus afterwards is talking about a potential follow up as we head into the holidays. And ask our readers and listeners heading into that story, where do you shop? What stores do you want to see? Because we do a little man on the street heading into this. But maybe as a big picture for the capital region, you know, what do you want? What like can we see a jump in Wilton Mulligan? Everything takes time.
There may be changes there before the holiday, but where do you shop? What do you like? Things like that.
[00:17:29] Speaker B: I mean, but he's really driven on this. I mean he's talking by 2027, you know, really having close to full capacity, almost full capacity or at least, you know, more than 50% of those spaces, you know, filled. And I think part of this is because he's going to get a lot of retailers from Clifton park center to come up there. I mean we, we spoke about the people behind PETA and Olive, which is very popular in Clifton park center are potentially, you know, in talks, although nothing set in stone about having a place up there.
You know, he mentioned some other stuff to us that off record we cannot talk about. But we know that there are a lot of good, good things coming and.
[00:18:12] Speaker A: People are attracted to the mall. We talk to people that when that were in downtown that are now at the mall. One break one a day old.
[00:18:18] Speaker B: Honestly, it's a great little hip hop dance studio. Yeah, it's a great location for the fact that if he can get retailers in there that people will shop at. You go to the mall, then you go to your Target, your Walmart, your, your market 32. It's like really in a solid spot. You can get all your shopping done in one.
One day. If it's me, it's more than one day because I'm gonna be in the stores for a while.
[00:18:38] Speaker A: But hey, and speaking of the food court wants to go with an international style food court.
[00:18:44] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:18:45] Speaker A: Talked about multiple coffee shops. Yes, multiple.
[00:18:49] Speaker B: I need that. I'm hoping it's some local people. I, you know, I understand you bring in some national people. I just thought it was great to see Mochalisa when we stopped by at Clifton Park Center. So I wouldn't be mad if we could get, you know, get your national chain in there because some people just love a Dunkin, love a Starbucks, whatever. I could even see a 7 brew going in there. That might be a fantastic spot for that. Yes.
[00:19:12] Speaker A: You bring up seven Brew.
[00:19:13] Speaker B: But get our, get our local people.
[00:19:15] Speaker A: So you know what would be good?
[00:19:16] Speaker B: We now have a Coffee Planet. Oh yeah, you know, I said it, I said it. Now wink, wink, nudge, nudge. My people at Coffee Planet go in Wilton Mall. We need you.
[00:19:26] Speaker A: Anyway, so I've, I've developed a new term unofficial sponsors.
There's just people that we really like to go to that we would like to have as a sponsor. So we're going to call them unofficial sponsors.
[00:19:37] Speaker B: A lot of them are just coffee places I. E We going on Duncan Stewart's and now seven.
[00:19:42] Speaker A: Seven Brew. How much fun have you we had at seven Brew?
[00:19:44] Speaker B: Well, I live like right in the area. I'm not gonna say exactly where because I don't need anybody knocking on my door.
[00:19:49] Speaker A: You can email Stan and Shannon Gmail. We'll send it to you.
[00:19:52] Speaker B: Please don't. I've already gotten somehow gotten like stuff sent to my personal address that should not be and I don't know how you get.
[00:20:02] Speaker A: Something.
[00:20:03] Speaker B: So please don't send me anything unless.
[00:20:08] Speaker A: She lives in the home.
[00:20:09] Speaker B: Unless it's a gift card for coffee at seven Brew. But thanks.
So, but, but I live right near the seven Brew. I drive street. Yes.
Over in the crosstown plaza right near the United Buffet. The Chinese buffet.
[00:20:26] Speaker A: And our friends at Bold.
[00:20:27] Speaker B: Yes. And our friends at Bold and the Ocean State job lot. And so yeah.
[00:20:32] Speaker A: So everything's right there.
[00:20:34] Speaker B: The location for me will be intriguing because I think it's going to get really jam packed and I'll, I'll be intrigued to see how the traffic works. It's.
But we did go, we did try some stuff. We'll have a little written up thing on that. The. They had three of their seven original brews available and two energy drinks which apparently you can get 12 of at a time.
[00:20:56] Speaker A: When you go there during the current. So explain what's going on. This song.
[00:21:01] Speaker B: So they've been doing their own.
[00:21:02] Speaker A: You were on the phone with me.
[00:21:04] Speaker B: Yes. They're doing.
[00:21:05] Speaker A: Trying to order.
[00:21:06] Speaker B: Yes. And the guy goes, you want any more? And I was like, wait, can you get more? And he goes, you can get up to 12. And I was like, who is in line getting 12? As a singular human being, you only offer five flavors. Like I could see if you wanted to try all five.
But 12 is someone coming from like an office on a Sunday to pick up 12.
Anyways. Might be stopping by this weekend if they're doing this again.
[00:21:31] Speaker A: But the whole thing. So you were there Saturday.
[00:21:35] Speaker B: I went Saturday and Sunday to try it out. So. Because they were doing Friday. Saturday and Sunday. And I couldn't go Friday because I was in the office really early and I was not leaving again. But I went Saturday on my way to get groceries. And I picked up.
I was originally gonna get the sugar free blondie. But by the time I went they were already out of that. So that was a very popular one. It seems like. So I got the hazelnut flavored one. I wish I had the thing in front of me to give you the description on. Phenomenal though. And then I had to get the other two the next day. So I tried all of those. Not tried the energy drinks. I tried the. Yes. I got the brunette, which is a hazelnut flavor. And then I got the sweet and salty, which has like a white chocolate in it.
[00:22:11] Speaker A: Caramel white chocolate and that. I thought that was going to like that. I thought because white chocolate. We've been there.
[00:22:16] Speaker B: I hate white chocolate anyway. But in coffee is apparently delicious. And at least the way they make it. Can't imagine the calories on this. And then I did end up getting the sugar free blondie, which might be my new fave thing. And a small for them is actually reasonably like. I feel like I got a lot of coffee.
[00:22:32] Speaker A: It's a medium. They give you mediums?
[00:22:34] Speaker B: No, no. They give you smalls.
[00:22:35] Speaker A: Were they. If that's a small. That's.
[00:22:37] Speaker B: That's a good size small.
[00:22:38] Speaker A: That's a good size small. I can't wait to get the large.
[00:22:40] Speaker B: Beep beep.
[00:22:40] Speaker A: Large.
So I stopped by based on your direction and requests.
[00:22:46] Speaker B: Operated like a chick fil A. Yeah.
[00:22:48] Speaker A: So you have two lanes. And what their whole thing is. They're doing this free coffee promotion. Limited items. And it's all designed to train their baristas and to train the cashier staff and the. And so I was there taking photos. And what was great was I love this model being in retail for, you know, Shen's age, the training of it, because they were actually having people tap. They called it tapping out. So people that were, like, working the line like a chick Fil A. So you had two drive through lines. They were starting your order on the iPad well before you got to the perceived, you know, the window where you would eventually pay. I did make a donation.
Children's Hospital. So we did the responsible thing. We are givers.
But they would tap out, like, okay, I'm tapping you out, so you're gonna go do something else. And the kids are doing it voluntarily. So I promised I would do this for the podcast. So a huge shout out to Ari, who works at the Colony 7 Brew, who is having a blast helping out Schenectady. Absolutely loves it.
The kids were. And again, you know me, everybody's a kid now.
So much fun, so friendly.
[00:23:53] Speaker B: No, I think it was great. I think they were all teenagers, older teenagers.
[00:23:57] Speaker A: I mean, it's.
[00:23:58] Speaker B: It's everybody manager. I mean, but I mean, they had. They had it flowing. When I first got there on Sunday, you were nervous. Three. They had three lines going. They actually opened up an additional line, not even their normal one in the parking lot of the Chinese buffet to just move people through so they could train as many people as possible, which I thought was intriguing. Obviously, that is not standard operation for them.
Maybe on, like, opening day, I could see them potentially doing it, because it will be, if any. If Colony was any indication of how bad traffic will be. I'm just giving you a heads up now. Come the 28th, if you don't want to be in this situation, avoid this area.
[00:24:32] Speaker A: So here's. Here's the thing.
Here's one thing I'm going to say, and we're going to talk about this real briefly because I know you wanted to make this short and we're not.
We were at Dave. Dave Matthews Friday, played Friday and Saturday at spac. I was there with Jackson, the intern.
And Jack cannot say that he's from the Ohio State. He just says he goes to Ohio State. So I would say that Jack goes to the Ohio State because he can't say that. And then everyone. I said. I said, are you here tomorrow? I said, yeah. I said, well, you have to go to the Country Corner Cafe, another unofficial sponsor, because that's his. His parents own that. I said, jack can't say it. I can. But it's worth the wait. There's gonna be. I said when you go up, there's gonna be a line, but it's worth the wait. I think. Seven brews right now from what we've tasted at seven brew. I got the sugar free blondie for me. Wonderful. I got the brunette, which was the chocolate hazelnut for Rita. Kept that in the fridge, gave it to her. She loved it. She was hoping to go through again this week, so we're gonna save that for next week.
[00:25:28] Speaker B: And I just find it interesting that they have so many combinations and everything on their menu, according to their website, everything can be customized.
[00:25:36] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:25:36] Speaker B: So I have just questions on whether or not more sugar free items like can I get anything sugar free? What can I get sugar?
[00:25:43] Speaker A: There's gonna be certain sugar free things, but the question is the oat milk.
[00:25:46] Speaker B: Yeah. Oat milk. Yeah. Because apparently their lattes, the ones we're drinking, are made with half and half. That's probably why they're so sweet. So that almost like a deal breaker. No wonder I was like, no wonder. Why I was kind of a little upset stomach afterwards. I was like with the coffee, it tasted good when you were drinking. And then like an hour afterwards, when it settles, I was like, oh, this isn't so great.
[00:26:07] Speaker A: But so just backing up a little bit. Jack and I were in the parking lot at Dave, met some wonderful people, did a great video, working on some technical things. So it looks a little bright and washed out, but I think I have a fix for that.
But in case you didn't watch the video, I'm gonna share with you and share with everybody else. And the video's up on YouTube. Here's the crazy thing about Dave. Here's the crazy thing we learned as part of this.
I thought people saw a lot of Bruce Springsteen shows. We ran into one family from Buffalo.
[00:26:39] Speaker B: People go bank all the time.
[00:26:40] Speaker A: Go to Bill's young. I say young couple. Okay. You got a husband and wife.
The husband could not look over 50 by any means, but he's got a preteen son and daughter and his wife. Wife's been to 41 shows. She doesn't even look 41. She's been to 41 shows. Dad. This was his 65th Dave show.
[00:27:01] Speaker B: People really like this band.
[00:27:02] Speaker A: That's a lot. Now here's the crazier thing.
[00:27:04] Speaker B: How many has Eric Miller been to?
[00:27:07] Speaker A: Everyone in Saratoga first night. But the thing was Jack and I learned is that people chase songs.
So Taylor has with the song.
[00:27:17] Speaker B: Oh, yes. So Taylor from the Errors tour She did, like, she does a.
Yeah, she does surprise. She did surprise songs.
[00:27:24] Speaker A: Surprise songs.
[00:27:25] Speaker B: And when she originally started doing it on the Heiress tour, there were actually swifties who went and, like, tracked every single one she did at which concerts and tried to narrow in on, like, what ones could potentially be next. There were a few. That is my understanding. I don't think she covered everything in. In her, like, from all across her range.
[00:27:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:27:45] Speaker B: Because some of them do a thousand concerts, but also some of them are a song. She's literally only saying, like, once and maybe on the album once and live in person. Like, there's one about her mom going through cancer, you know, and growing up going through that, that I think she's only really performed, like, once or twice live in person. And I don't think she played it at the concert. But, yeah, I totally understand the idea.
[00:28:07] Speaker A: Of, like, facing that is called a chase song. It's literally called a chase song.
So for our. Our man has been. Our dad has been. This is the 65th. He has a chase song. He don't think. He didn't think he was going to get it because it's a little bit of a mellower song, you know, for, like, a spat crowd. But then we ran into a wonderful couple that got their chase song last week. They're from Indiana, so they saw Dave in Indiana. They got their chase song. Okay. Drove 12 hours to Saratoga, stopped in Niagara Falls, and they came down to Dave and they, you know. And then his wife Jocelyn has her chase song. So the chase song was new to us. And we also asked, what's your favorite Dave song? And this was really sweet because the husband said, my favorite Dave song is the song that we had our first kiss to. And it was just, like, so awesome. And then we ran into friends of our friend of the podcast, Andrew Puglis, and I got some tea on him from his college days and your old place at SUNY Oswego. And after talking to.
Talking to Colin, I'm surprised the place is still standing between the three of you going through.
But great people. So much fun and hope.
[00:29:16] Speaker B: Yes. The Aspegonian still has walls, to my knowledge.
[00:29:19] Speaker A: And so then, you know, Life continues after 7 Brew. And then we had work yesterday, which was. We had a rough day yesterday. We had to do the news thing, and that was a rough day. But then we get to kick off today at Bass Pro Shop. So how was that?
[00:29:34] Speaker B: That was fun. We got to see Stan's old office.
[00:29:38] Speaker A: Really?
You're just gonna harp on it? So I'll put it up on the YouTube version of here. So there is a beautiful roll down desk with books on it and it's basically designed like be someplace where you might fly fish thing. But there's a very, very old and I'm gonna say Underwood typewriter there, manual typewriter, which may be the first one that Shen's ever seen. And she goes Stan, look, your first computer. And she thinks the funniest thing. She's been saying it all day now.
[00:30:05] Speaker B: Everybody thought it was funny. There were laughs among everyone. I'm pretty sure Brian, the GM laughs. So anyway. But yes, great 77,000 square foot location.
Only the fourth in the state.
The next locations would be Utica, Auburn I believe they said. And then there's one other and I missed where that is.
But yes. So bigger than the Utica one by 20,000 square feet apparently. So huge in there. And I mean, how did I describe it? The, the target of hunting and fishing, something like that.
[00:30:43] Speaker A: You were fishing for leads on that?
[00:30:45] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, it's, it's very ha.
Almost as funny as my typewriter thing.
So yeah. So I mean just it. I am not a hunter fisher or I gather, I'll gather.
[00:30:59] Speaker A: Gather things. Yeah.
[00:31:01] Speaker B: But hunting and fishing, not my forte. But really nice to see inside of there. The aquarium's cool and as much as the aquarium is cool and like I think everybody expected that. It's really the mural of Hand painted.
[00:31:14] Speaker A: Hand painted, painted. All the paintings that yes.
[00:31:17] Speaker B: They actually went up to, what was it? Huddle Bay, I think Huddle Bay in Lake George. They sent their, their artists up there.
I believe it was over a few days. They took photos and they used those photos to create a hand painted mural along. It's like three walls, 60ft maybe.
[00:31:37] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, it's a true mural.
[00:31:40] Speaker B: Yeah, three, three portions of the walls back in the, in the fishing area fishing department.
So they have, you know, in a public conservation night coming up on July 30th, I believe it's grand opening six. Yes, that is their grand opening. They'll have country music artists there. They'll have top fishers in the game. They'll have, you know, all sorts of people there, you know, officials from, from the organization will be there and they get to showcase that entire store. We got a sneak peek today.
That story will be up in, in print tomorrow and just really interesting to see inside of it, you know. So it was great. I know Brian, the GM is super excited over there. You'll get a little of his personal story with this.
And so you know, it was nice of them to invite us for a sneak peek.
So. Yeah, I mean, it would be great. And I expect traffic for that. So. Heads up.
[00:32:39] Speaker A: And Brian Lalone not sharing a 36th anniversary.
But his anniversary is coming up shortly as he is a friend of the family.
So. I've known Brian for a while now and I did the cupcakes for his wife's bridal shower.
[00:32:55] Speaker B: They didn't ask you to do the cupcakes for Bass Pro. Come on, Brian.
You know what?
[00:33:00] Speaker A: The thing is, we didn't get any swag either.
I'm gonna get on that. Like, maybe. Cause I was thinking for the photo for the podcast, we like, could have gotten a Bass Pro Shop hat product placement. Brian, on the podcast.
[00:33:11] Speaker B: I'm just saying you could have came up with a really solid cupcake, like for Bass Pro Shop. Like something that. Some gum.
[00:33:17] Speaker A: Swedish. Yeah, I've done fishing before.
[00:33:20] Speaker B: Swedish fish.
[00:33:20] Speaker A: I've done fishing before.
[00:33:21] Speaker B: You could do Swedish.
[00:33:22] Speaker A: I've done a Gone fishing fondant before sign. I've actually made it out of white. Out of chocolate with writing on it.
[00:33:28] Speaker B: What would a Bass Pro Shop cupcake be?
Definitely chocolate.
[00:33:32] Speaker A: It'd be blue. It'd be like a blue water and then the gummy.
[00:33:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:33:36] Speaker A: But then Swedish fish.
[00:33:37] Speaker B: I think you gotta have a chocolate base or like. Oh, yeah, like a soil almost.
[00:33:40] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:33:41] Speaker B: And you've gotta have something fun.
[00:33:42] Speaker A: Crushed Oreo. And speaking of Oreo.
[00:33:44] Speaker B: Crushed Oreo inside, so that gets a little gritty.
[00:33:47] Speaker A: You want it on the outside, so you're not coming in. But speaking of Oreos, we were going to have a surprise tasting today.
[00:33:52] Speaker B: We're not trying blueberry Oreos. I'm not for it.
[00:33:54] Speaker A: So the podcast co host just slapped.
I tell you. So this is my second batch.
[00:34:01] Speaker B: Lemons. Yes, Blueberry.
[00:34:03] Speaker A: Rita really likes it. It's got a graham cracker. So we'll report back what the staff says after that. Speaking of big things, I was out at Sage and Cedar. Cedar and Sage. Sage and Cedar.
[00:34:15] Speaker B: You don't even know.
[00:34:16] Speaker A: I was there with Kate. Kate's got it because she's writing the story. Sage and Cedar, I think. And some phenomenal looking food there. Our friends out there in Gloversville, they were great. And that's for our big edition. And speaking of be.
[00:34:30] Speaker B: Holy crap.
[00:34:31] Speaker A: Is it for a podcast?
[00:34:33] Speaker B: Ozzy Osbourne died. Wow. 76. 6.
[00:34:37] Speaker A: We just got. We got the concert in.
Wow.
[00:34:41] Speaker B: That's crazy.
[00:34:42] Speaker A: That's crazy. This is what happens. Shen looks at her phone and then something like this happens. And it kind of changes the direction of everything.
So speaking of be, the big edition, which we call BE and all our slack notes back and forth, how is BE doing? Meaning the business editor.
[00:35:00] Speaker B: I thought you meant the big edition. I was going to say ask me when the ten week series we're about to do and the big edition's done.
[00:35:14] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:35:14] Speaker B: And I feel like I can breathe again.
[00:35:16] Speaker A: So it's kind of hard coming off the news about Ozzy. But tonight I'll see Brett Michaels and.
[00:35:22] Speaker B: Def Leppard might be the last time get it in.
[00:35:25] Speaker A: And that's why we do these things. Because you never know. You never know.
[00:35:29] Speaker B: That's crazy.
[00:35:30] Speaker A: That's legendary. Legendary.
[00:35:33] Speaker B: You know, he just watched his daughter.
[00:35:35] Speaker A: Get engaged too, which is why we do these things, which is why we need to do these things.
[00:35:40] Speaker B: So also in better news, to end on a happier note, storage shops has brought back peanut butter cookie half gallons. You're welcome, everybody.
[00:35:48] Speaker A: Can you dial up Stan?
[00:35:50] Speaker B: Why?
[00:35:51] Speaker A: Because I just. I need you to. This is just something we need to do right now.
[00:35:59] Speaker B: What a jam. We can get in trouble for that stamp, so don't want the rights to that.
[00:36:05] Speaker A: If anybody hasn't picked up on that, that's Shannon's ringtone is Crazy Train.
If you're special, you get a special ringtone from Stan.
[00:36:17] Speaker B: Why did. There's a note in your contact for me that just says a.
[00:36:21] Speaker A: Well, it's probably fitting on a lot of weeks, so.
But we stopped by Dairy House and talk about Stewart's flights are three, Dairy House is four.
[00:36:31] Speaker B: Correct.
[00:36:32] Speaker A: That's crazy.
[00:36:33] Speaker B: All right.
[00:36:36] Speaker A: And they have. They also have gelati flights.
[00:36:38] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:36:39] Speaker A: So it's gelato and ice cream as a flight and mini Sunday flights at Dairy House.
[00:36:47] Speaker B: We're both stopping at some point. Okay.
[00:36:50] Speaker A: When traffic's not bad, we will stop.
[00:36:53] Speaker B: I need them to shut down just for me.
[00:36:56] Speaker A: So again, generally happy news, but obviously the passing of Ozzy Osbourne, you know, breaking on the podcast here on the 22nd. But a happy anniversary to Rob and Lisa. And we'll let you know about the blueberry pie Oreos and we'll try to find another tasting that Shen won't bump. Just slam.
Like not even get in the door.
Not even smell it. You're just not.
[00:37:20] Speaker B: I don't even want to smell it.
[00:37:22] Speaker A: No.
[00:37:22] Speaker B: No.
[00:37:23] Speaker A: You're done.
[00:37:23] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:37:24] Speaker A: We got next week. Anything fun?
[00:37:25] Speaker B: Not at the moment.
[00:37:26] Speaker A: All right, well, we'll try to find something fun to talk about.
[00:37:29] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:37:31] Speaker A: Say goodbye.
[00:37:31] Speaker B: Goodbye.
[00:37:33] Speaker A: Is it fitting?
Love your life. It's the only one you got?
