[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hi, I'm Stan.
[00:00:02] Speaker B: And I'm Shen.
[00:00:03] Speaker A: And each week we bring you the Stan and Shen Show. And each week we talk about fun things through our travels throughout the capital region. We touch on food, we touch on news, try to touch heavily on good news. And Shen's always available with hot takes.
[00:00:19] Speaker B: Yeah. So if you could follow along and listen to us every week on DailyGazette.com or on all major streaming platforms, we'd love to have you join us. Pay me.
[00:00:30] Speaker A: Isn't every day a long day?
[00:00:32] Speaker B: Mentally and emotionally? Yes.
Hour wise sometimes.
[00:00:38] Speaker A: So we have excitement tomorrow. And you know what Tomorrow is?
[00:00:42] Speaker B: It's March 13th.
[00:00:43] Speaker A: It is.
[00:00:44] Speaker B: It is.
[00:00:45] Speaker A: And you know what that means?
[00:00:46] Speaker B: It means that there's a basketball game.
[00:00:48] Speaker A: And it's the 13th Stan and Shen Show Podcast.
[00:00:52] Speaker B: Ah, look at that. Like we planned this.
[00:00:56] Speaker A: I have nothing after 13. I'm tapped out. I'm gonna like, like wait for 21 and. Or 25 and then kind of like find a number.
[00:01:05] Speaker B: I still wanna celebrate our kinse.
[00:01:09] Speaker A: Our kinse?
[00:01:10] Speaker B: Yeah. That would be our 15th episode. And then we can celebrate our Sweet Sixteen episode.
[00:01:17] Speaker A: All right, so we're set. So we got that done.
[00:01:18] Speaker B: Then we can. Then we can celebrate. We've graduated podcast high school at 18.
[00:01:25] Speaker A: That's true.
[00:01:26] Speaker B: 21. We were voting.
[00:01:27] Speaker A: Voting age.
[00:01:28] Speaker B: Yeah, 21. We're legally allowed to drink on the episode.
[00:01:31] Speaker A: So on the 18th, maybe we'll do like, we'll talk voting and things like that. Maybe it'll be a political one. Who knows?
[00:01:39] Speaker B: Let's not get too political.
People might not appreciate our.
[00:01:44] Speaker A: Speaking of politics, when you think politics, you think you need to drink.
And we did that this week.
[00:01:53] Speaker B: We did. We did do that. I don't know when I think politics, I think I need to drink only in certain situations talking to certain people. But yes, we did. We went to Treehouse Brewing, which is officially opened their tap room. This has been long awaited since their announcement. Originally, I believe in 2023 that they were expanding into New York state for the first time.
Massachusetts based operation and I believe this is like their eighth location.
It's up there. No, I think it's up there. They have several locations.
[00:02:29] Speaker A: Didn't have it in the story.
[00:02:31] Speaker B: Well, we named out the location, so.
Of which I can't say. Say several of them because if you know words in Massachusetts or I fond to say Tewkesbury, I probably didn't say that correctly.
[00:02:46] Speaker A: Anyway, Tewksbury is good. Yeah, it's good. Tewksbury's good.
[00:02:49] Speaker B: Deerville didn't Use it.
[00:02:50] Speaker A: But it was fun.
[00:02:51] Speaker B: It was. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous spot. It is.
They did not skip on anything there. It is so nice. And I think, you know, Saratoga County Chamber President Todd Shimkus, who's been on the podcast before.
[00:03:06] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:03:07] Speaker B: Summed it up nicely that they sort of brought this feeling of the Adirondacks outside in. And so they do have an outside component and that'll look gorgeous in the summer once, you know, all their flowers and things are planted and the space is filled and music's going. But it's very nice inside. We tried three different things while we were on lunch. Just want to note that we were on lunch.
[00:03:30] Speaker A: I mean, we're like really thimble sized. I mean, these weren't even like traditional sample size.
[00:03:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:36] Speaker A: These were like thimble. So we were. We were still legal.
[00:03:39] Speaker B: Yeah. And I, I had them written down in my notebook. And I, I didn't bring my notebook.
[00:03:43] Speaker A: We had the stout.
[00:03:44] Speaker B: We had. I believe that was the single shot, which was a coffee stout, which was my favorite of all of them.
[00:03:49] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:03:50] Speaker B: We had their. Their house name one, which Citrus Julius, which is a citrusy one. Not necessarily my favorite person.
[00:03:59] Speaker A: We. Rita was pretty excited because I, I had it akin to a Sam Summer ale.
[00:04:04] Speaker B: And the last one, you can't forget the name, which is Pizza pills. It's, you know, goes hand in hand with the amazing pizza they make there. Very New York.
[00:04:12] Speaker A: They brought over one slice of pizza.
[00:04:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:04:15] Speaker A: And I was like, just bring one, because I really shouldn't have pizza. So I thought maybe I would get a piece of the piece.
[00:04:22] Speaker B: You didn't even ask. Don't even play. You did not even ask.
[00:04:25] Speaker A: It went quick.
[00:04:26] Speaker B: You didn't even. Okay, first of all, I was taking pieces of it at a time. I didn't eat it. Like a true New Year style pizza. And like, you didn't even ask once.
[00:04:36] Speaker A: Right.
[00:04:36] Speaker B: But when you did the pieces, you didn't even try.
[00:04:39] Speaker A: When you did the pieces, it was like a Ginsu.
[00:04:41] Speaker B: No. You didn't try to evaluate that you wanted a piece of pizza. Anyway.
[00:04:49] Speaker A: It was good.
[00:04:50] Speaker B: It was very.
[00:04:51] Speaker A: It was all good.
[00:04:51] Speaker B: It was very good. And it was actually interesting because literally the first two people, first two groups of people I talked to there have both been to other locations and expressed that they really knocked this one out of the park.
And so excited to see what they do. We know that we've already reported that they have some summer events scheduled. They don't do a lot of events, but they have like a Coffee and cars event event scheduled for the summer, so that'll be interesting to see how many people show up. But it sounds like it's already a very hopping place.
Ha.
[00:05:24] Speaker A: There you go. You got one in.
[00:05:26] Speaker B: Ha. Well, I brewed that one up recently, so.
[00:05:29] Speaker A: Man, it's gonna be a contest now. So if you think that was fun on Monday, the day and night got even better.
[00:05:39] Speaker B: It did.
I did not go. Although Indiana did say I could have her a ticket. She did have an extra ticket, but I did not take her up on it because I had other plans for the evening, which meant going home and going to bed early.
But they went to Proctor's which announced they're line up. Yeah, the G. They announced their lineup for the 2025, 2026 season, and there are a lot of great shows coming.
[00:06:04] Speaker A: To the area and that leads us into inviting in. First time on the podcast. First time podcast. Longtime friend.
[00:06:12] Speaker B: Long time friend.
[00:06:13] Speaker A: Long time friend.
[00:06:14] Speaker B: I'm besties with her baby.
[00:06:15] Speaker A: That's right. Senior features writer, Indiana Nash. The Indiana Nash.
[00:06:20] Speaker B: Yes. Mother of soon to be journalist Fable.
[00:06:25] Speaker A: Fable. Unless she marries well, which is all our homes.
And so, yeah, so Indiana was there, Amira Deitch was there, and I was there. And then I was fortunate enough that Rita swapped her schedule so my wife Rita was able to make it. Huge musical fan, Huge Broadway fan. Her first time at Proctors.
[00:06:47] Speaker B: Yes. We discussed how we are sad that we don't have any Beauty and the Beast tickets for the two of us because we've never. Okay, so that was Rita's first time going into Proctors.
[00:06:55] Speaker A: I've heard of about this Beauty and the Beast for and.
[00:06:58] Speaker B: And Stan knows that my first time was actually a walkthrough for the holiday parade. Was the first time I was ever in Proctors. I've yet to see a show. Yet to see a show. Because if I'm. If I'm gonna do a show, the first one I pick, it really needs to, like, be something I don't want to just go. Just to go. I want it to be one that I've really looked forward to, that I really want to see. And so I'm excited about some of the lineup this year because there are a couple on there that I'm like, I definitely am willing to splurge on tickets, so.
Okay, that or I'll write a review.
[00:07:33] Speaker C: Is Wicked up there?
[00:07:35] Speaker B: Is Wicked is up there Wicked. Is it Wicked? Wicked's definitely up there. I have not seen the movie yet because I feel like I need to see the musical before I see the movie, because that's what it was originally intended to be. And so I don't want to actually watch the movie yet without watching the musical. I feel like it's different. I feel like it's like reading a book before the movie comes out, which I. I guess I shouldn't talk that much because I didn't read any of the Harry Potter books, But I like the movies anyway.
[00:08:06] Speaker A: So let's turn this over to Indiana. To Indiana to talk about the bash. And how many bashes have you been to? And is this like, an annual for you? Do you circle it? I was. I could tell you my first impression of Rita's was, holy mackerel. I mean, packed house.
[00:08:24] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:08:24] Speaker A: You were up in the fundraising seats.
[00:08:26] Speaker C: Right.
[00:08:27] Speaker A: And I was down with the people.
But I got great photos and some great fun. But, I mean, how many bashes is this for you? And do you circle it? And what's the bash like for you?
[00:08:35] Speaker C: So I have lost count of how many bashes I've gone to. I know I missed last year's because I was still out on maternity leave, so this was a really fun one to return to. And I liked the theme a lot, I think, you know, every year they try to do a different theme, which really adds to it. And this. This time around, they did kind of like a fake award show, and they had, you know, several jokes that have, you know, played out on recent award shows that they, you know, got in there, which was great. And I hope I'm getting their names right. I think it was Michael McCord and then Jacob Frenier.
[00:09:14] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:09:14] Speaker C: They kind of opened it up, and they did this opening number, musical mashup performance that was just really, really fantastic. Super funny, and just set a good tone for the rest of the evening.
And obviously, you know, we had some other actors and actresses who are going to be in some of the productions that were announced, and they got to kind of give little snippets of performances throughout evening. So that was always fun. And. And I think the top one, at least from. From the crowd reactions, was Sweet Caroline.
[00:09:56] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:09:57] Speaker C: The Neil diamond one, right?
[00:09:58] Speaker A: Yep. Yeah, that's a beautiful noise. That's. I think that's kind of. Excuse me. Kicking off the 2526 season.
And that was the interesting thing again for myself and Rita. Still fighting this head cold here. Apologize.
You know, we thought it was going to be. This is coming. Here's a trailer. This is coming. Here's a trailer. This is coming. Here's a trailer. And that was the sense. Even though we got the sneak peek at 6:00 for media where they gave. Listed out the shows, there was excitement in like the preview room. But I wasn't aware that like they said musical performances. I'm like, okay.
I didn't realize it was going to be like, oh, it's Monday. They're not playing on Broadway. So they shipped up to Schenectady and performed and. And yeah, yeah, Sweet Caroline just crushed.
[00:10:51] Speaker C: Brought down the house.
[00:10:53] Speaker B: I mean, that's just a song that everybody can get along to.
[00:10:55] Speaker C: And they did. The whole place was singing.
[00:10:58] Speaker A: They did. And the trailer looks absolutely fantastic. So I was kidding around with Indiana. And then also we saw. We saw Gazette friend Haley Licaro and Maureen was there from dsic. And I said, so the drinking game is every time Rita sees a show and says, I want to go take a shot.
[00:11:19] Speaker B: How did you make it in? You were drunk by the end.
[00:11:22] Speaker A: It's. I mean, I thought I was. I think if I added up all my tickets that I need to purchase, I'm already a subscriber, so I've got to do the math to see which works out better for me as discounts go for shows that she wants to see. But there was some shows I know of, you know, Spamalot, of course, you know, Monty Python fame for those, for your parents was huge as part of our lives and me, the Sound of Music, I mean, how can you go wrong with that?
[00:11:55] Speaker B: Sort of a classic.
[00:11:57] Speaker A: And then it was interesting because some of it's old, but new. They talked about Moulin Rouge with like that jukebox music and things like that.
[00:12:04] Speaker B: Already mentioned. One I would love to see. Love the movie, by the way. I love Nicole Kidman in it. Love the movie. Want to see that.
[00:12:12] Speaker A: And then Ann Juliet looks so great. Such a great premise. And then it also was interesting because, again, it's the Proctor's bash, but there's so much, so many shows that are going to be at the Rep.
So you were excited in the media room for one or two announcements. So what was your biggest?
[00:12:32] Speaker C: So I was probably most excited about and Juliet because it's a production that I've been hearing about since well before it came to Broadway, specifically because Aniski, una native, is the musical director for it. And I got to talk with him when it was, you know, like right before it went to Broadway, essentially. I kind of caught up with him about his journey with the production. And I mean, he started working on it, I think it was back in like 2017.
So, you know, these things take a long, long time to develop.
And especially for my age group, like a millennial, it's got all the sounds from, like, our childhood, basically. So that's another, you know, cool aspect of it. But they've kind of been adapted, obviously, for a more Broadway sound storyline. Sounds really fun too. It's essentially, you know, what would happen if Juliet said, ah, actually, I don't really want to. I don't really want to die. I want to keep living.
[00:13:40] Speaker A: Slight.
[00:13:41] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:13:44] Speaker B: She didn't choose the exact.
[00:13:46] Speaker C: She didn't choose the man. Yeah. So I think that'll be a really fun one. And I would also like to see the Outsiders, especially because it won, you know, the Tony Award for best musical. So, you know, that's interesting in itself.
[00:14:02] Speaker A: And that was another insanely good performance of Great Expectations, that song there. That just was just powerful and things like that. That was breathtaking.
And the rep, too, is well represented with a bunch of different shows.
[00:14:18] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, they have a really good variety. I think the Becky Nurse of Salem one, which is their first one that they start off with in September, will be a very fun time. It sounds.
It sounds funny, but also, like, if you enjoyed the Handmaid's Tale, you're going to like this. So that's a strange juxtaposition that I'm pretty excited to see how that may.
[00:14:42] Speaker A: Be the first time juxtaposition has ever been used on this podcast.
[00:14:45] Speaker B: It should be the first and last. Yes.
I don't know that we're ever gonna bring that up.
[00:14:50] Speaker A: If we bring Miles on, Miles might drop it, But I think that's why. That's why the talent is in the room right now across from us.
[00:14:59] Speaker B: Should do a word of. A word of the word of the podcast.
[00:15:02] Speaker A: Word of the week.
[00:15:04] Speaker B: Yeah, man.
[00:15:07] Speaker C: But another one that I think is definitely going to highlight that season is Mystic Pizza. Cuz who doesn't love that movie?
[00:15:13] Speaker B: I. Mystic Pizza is coming. Yes. I missed that one. I love that movie.
[00:15:18] Speaker C: Yeah, I know.
Yeah.
[00:15:21] Speaker B: Oh, that's exciting.
[00:15:22] Speaker A: Take a shot.
That was on the list. And again, part of it is, you know, updating the music is. I can say that as an old man is like some of the music to it is more modern.
[00:15:35] Speaker B: I feel like I'm gonna go home and find that movie now.
[00:15:37] Speaker C: Yeah.
You need a refresher before you go see it in. Let's see. Okay. It's. It's late. It's not until July 10th of 2026, but still, that's fine. That's all Right, Yep.
[00:15:52] Speaker A: So where.
[00:15:55] Speaker B: Yes, yeah, absolutely.
[00:15:57] Speaker A: It's. Yeah, there could be a car load, depending on who else in the family wants to go.
[00:16:02] Speaker B: Oh, it's definitely. It's an outing at this point. We make it a girl's day.
[00:16:05] Speaker A: Okay. All right. The.
What's. Where is again? You've been to these before. So where's. Where's the proctor's game right now? Because now it's proctors. The rep uph, you know, is the proctors brand as it expands. You know, high tide lifts all boats. I mean, are you seeing that in the area?
[00:16:31] Speaker C: Yeah, for sure. Absolutely.
And, you know, I'm. I'm wondering if there's going to be a world eventually where, you know, uph, their season announcement is also part of the bash.
I mean, maybe in a slightly different form, but I can definitely see them coming on board and just becoming a part of this huge event as well.
[00:16:57] Speaker A: What's next? Well, I mean, we kind of roll out of this and we're in the heart of high school musicals.
The life that I'm living on photos, traipsing around.
It's interesting because every show I go to, it's like the. The last one I saw is my favorite. So it's like, it's so hard.
[00:17:19] Speaker B: We talked about favorites.
[00:17:20] Speaker A: Thank God I'm not a judge, so I'm just taking photos.
[00:17:24] Speaker B: Why? They'd all be 11th on the 10th.
[00:17:26] Speaker A: We're not doing the 11 thing on the 10. That's a whole nother judging. But I'm amazed at the talent that's at the high school level. Yeah, locally, I think it's so great. So I'm so glad that we are a part of it and capturing moments before they.
Before they go. We're generally hitting dress rehearsals and then we've also partnered with proctors for the High School Musical Theater Awards show and things like that.
But then you saw these people Monday night and then you kind of immediate appreciation of.
They were great at the high school level. Loved it. But then when you see it live in front of you from Broadway, you're like, okay, that's why it's one in a million.
[00:18:13] Speaker C: Right.
[00:18:14] Speaker A: Make it there.
Do you like that? Do you? I mean, what. What's your draw to musicals and to the shows at proctors?
[00:18:25] Speaker C: Well, you know, honestly, part of it is the atmosphere, I think. You know, I've watched, especially during the pandemic, like a lot of us did, we kind of watched Hamilton and watched those sorts of things on your televisions at home. And that was probably Half. Half the fun, you know, half the fun that it normally is. When you're sitting in the theater and you're surrounded by other, you know, theater lovers and getting to hear their chats during intermission and getting to feel the standing ovations afterwards. There's just something about it that is.
It's really lovely and it's a one of a kind thing.
[00:19:12] Speaker A: I concur because I'm in a position and hopefully Rita doesn't listen to this, but I know she is.
I would rather spend money to go see a musical at a proctors than anything at spec just because I love music, play music all the time, sing all the time in my car. I'm very good in my car.
But at spac and things like that, you don't get that sound that, that drew you to it. I'm a studio guy, like the studio sessions. I like the. The mix stuff, the live. It's a good show. But I will always remember this song for this certain way, whatever song it is.
Whereas Hamilton, yeah, we saw it on screen, but I can only imagine in that captured audience and when you're able to witness the. And I use the word breath of the performance like we saw Monday night, that gave me palpitations.
Another word that may not happen again.
But it's just you. You could feel the talent, you know, coming at you in that closed, you know, acoustic environment. So I thought that was wonderful. Even though someone would pay up to $500 to see Taylor Swift among 50,000 people and think it's the greatest thing ever.
[00:20:43] Speaker B: No, I'm still gonna say that. Like I would still do that. I mean, it's Taylor Swift, top tier artist, one of the best artists of history and in the world currently. If I had an opportunity to even just once get a glimpse of Taylor.
[00:20:57] Speaker A: Swift in person, as a dot, as.
[00:20:59] Speaker B: An ant, I might die.
Like, there's no. And you're saying this to Indiana's in here too, and she also is a Taylor Swift fan. So you're not winning this conversation.
[00:21:12] Speaker A: Her appreciating for Taylor Swift, I can probably come to some sort of agreement on. You're just the rest of humanity, you know, like seeing, like seeing fire for the first time and yeah, being thrown, totally enthralled with it. And you know, there is nothing else in the world.
[00:21:29] Speaker B: I feel like you say this, but you're like everybody else who goes to a Taylor Swift concert. You would be like everybody else who goes to a Taylor Swift concert and be like afterwards, like, you know, I kind of Came in and I was like, it's gonna be okay. She's like any other performer. But then I was. She sang, and I was like, oh, my God. Like, that's how I feel. Like he would be.
[00:21:47] Speaker A: Be.
[00:21:47] Speaker B: That's gonna be me when I go to watch a show at Proctors.
[00:21:49] Speaker A: Well, that. I understand that. I agree with you're. I'm still out there, but we'll see if we get tickets.
[00:21:54] Speaker B: We'll see. But I have a very important question for Indiana before we. Okay. Before we end.
[00:21:58] Speaker A: Before we let her get back to work.
[00:21:59] Speaker B: Yes. Is Baby Fable making a show this year?
Which one will it be?
[00:22:04] Speaker C: You know, that's a good idea.
[00:22:08] Speaker A: We didn't have any Wiggles. We didn't have anything this year.
[00:22:11] Speaker C: I think it should be Sound of Music, Right?
[00:22:14] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:22:14] Speaker C: And they had the local kids on for that, which was.
[00:22:17] Speaker B: Which was great. Yeah.
[00:22:19] Speaker C: But I think Sound of Music would probably be her indoctrination.
[00:22:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:22:23] Speaker C: The most fitting one.
[00:22:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:22:26] Speaker C: Yeah. I love it.
[00:22:27] Speaker B: I think that'd be good.
[00:22:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:22:30] Speaker B: Maybe that's what I'll do. Maybe that'll be my first one. Me and Fable will go.
[00:22:33] Speaker C: There you go.
[00:22:34] Speaker B: We have an outing. I'll just come. I'll come steal her for the day. Yeah, I'll come legally steal her.
[00:22:40] Speaker A: You're.
[00:22:40] Speaker B: No.
[00:22:41] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:22:42] Speaker A: You'll watch her.
[00:22:43] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:22:45] Speaker A: You're welcome.
[00:22:46] Speaker C: Yeah, man.
[00:22:47] Speaker A: All right. Anything else exciting coming up in Indiana? Nash's whirlwind world of writing and organizing and laying out special sections and never.
[00:23:00] Speaker B: Ending world of writing.
[00:23:01] Speaker C: I love it.
[00:23:02] Speaker B: Say that five times fast.
[00:23:03] Speaker C: Oh, goodness.
This weekend I've got a feature on what a local filmmaker is or has recently been working on at Armory Studios.
[00:23:17] Speaker B: So that'll be exciting. This is a good transition.
[00:23:21] Speaker A: Nice segue into here because we'll be.
[00:23:24] Speaker B: At Armory Studios tomorrow night.
[00:23:26] Speaker A: So.
[00:23:27] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:23:27] Speaker A: All right. We'll get you out of here. Thank you, Indiana.
[00:23:29] Speaker C: Thanks.
[00:23:31] Speaker A: Yeah. So Armory Studios, not only known for creating great things in the movie world on their 40,000 foot sound stage and.
[00:23:40] Speaker B: Being a host of. Of food locations.
[00:23:42] Speaker A: Food locations during Soup Fest.
Tomorrow's the big night. It's what we've been waiting for a lot of people have been waiting for. The New York Phoenix 2.0will host the Albany Patroons.
[00:23:58] Speaker B: First rival game of the year.
[00:23:59] Speaker A: First rivalry game of the year. Both are undefeated. Somebody's going home a loser. The Stan and Shen show will be there. We'll do a Facebook live on that.
[00:24:09] Speaker B: Hopefully get some people to talk to us about, you know, this new rivalry in town. You know, first time, obviously, for Schenectady, and even the city officials have already made this a thing. And so we're going full force on this one because we are. We are a born and bred Schenectady paper at heart.
[00:24:30] Speaker A: We are.
[00:24:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:32] Speaker A: Now, I've been to two games. I went to the first two wins, so I'm the lucky charm. So I'm obligated to go tomorrow because I got to keep this streak alive. But what do you.
[00:24:41] Speaker B: If I go, we lose, it's on me.
[00:24:44] Speaker A: I'm saying I've got a good track record. So if it goes south, we don't know if you're going to be invited back to the next one. But what are you looking forward to? Because you didn't get a chance to make the first two. So what do you. What are you looking forward to?
[00:24:55] Speaker B: Obviously, I want to meet Singe since the mascot, which he's going to hate me for telling this story, but I'm going to tell it anyways. Good little laugh. So Chad came up to me in the office yesterday and he goes, shannon, now don't quote me on this word for word, this conversation, but it was something like, shannon, I didn't know that Singe was a phoenix. I thought it was a chicken. All birds look alike.
A chicken.
[00:25:22] Speaker A: A chicken.
[00:25:23] Speaker B: A chicken.
[00:25:24] Speaker A: He's mascot challenged, apparently.
[00:25:27] Speaker B: So he probably thinks Newsy is a toothpaste. So, I mean, yeah.
[00:25:32] Speaker A: Or toilet paper, the paper towel roll. So, you know, the patrons have three games. They're three, and, oh, they're averaging 126 points.
New York, Phoenix 2. 0, averaging 113 points.
So obviously, we expect this to be high scoring. Expect a. I. I'm predicting a sellout.
I know we tried to get somebody from the patrons on, but scheduling going into rivalry, rivalry week is huge for them, especially the first one. Anybody who's anybo within Schenectady county, we know is going to be there, including us and Rita.
[00:26:11] Speaker B: And I just got some breaking news.
[00:26:13] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:26:16] Speaker B: So coming to you first, we will have a Belmont on Broadway announcement on April 10th at 11:30am at City Hall. I just got that text message from Todd Shimkus. So there's your update on that. We will finally get who the musical acts this are this year for Belmont on Broadway.
[00:26:32] Speaker A: Right? Two acts versus three.
[00:26:34] Speaker B: Two acts versus three.
[00:26:35] Speaker A: All right, so I have to get. Get some work done. I've got. I've got an early line on the opening act, so I've got to do some background on it and have it in the can. In case I'm right.
[00:26:48] Speaker B: In case you're right.
[00:26:49] Speaker A: If I'm wrong, we were ready. We were ready. So exciting, but exciting news. Exciting news. April 10th is coming. In fact, we just talked to Miles Reid about July's event besides Bellman on Broadway and things like that. So we've got that other news.
Last week we had our special guest, Andrew Puglies.
[00:27:17] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:27:17] Speaker A: Talked about COVID And that brings me into talking about.
I don't know if it's good news. I think it's just news. I said it was news. And part of it's good news that we have another podcast. I have another podcast. There's a second podcast coming out of the studio that's not the Ken. The Parting Shots with Ken Shot. So I've launched my own podcast. It comes off our Getting to Know series with people in the community.
It's myself. It's called tell me your story. So it's talking to different people throughout the area that aren't on the front page.
And so there's a couple humorous comments I make about who will not be on the Tell Me youe Story podcast.
[00:28:01] Speaker B: We have a long list.
[00:28:03] Speaker A: So there's a couple. There's a couple. All friends of the Schenectad Gazette most of the time. But we kind of know a lot about them and what they're doing. So these are reaching out to people.
[00:28:13] Speaker B: Just FYI, to every politician, city leader, official.
[00:28:18] Speaker A: Probably not.
[00:28:19] Speaker B: You're not going to be on the.
[00:28:20] Speaker A: Probably not.
[00:28:21] Speaker B: You're not going to be on Stan's podcast. We might bring you on this podcast.
[00:28:24] Speaker A: Absolutely. You're always welcome on the stand and Chen show, whatever's going on.
[00:28:28] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:28:29] Speaker A: This is a little bit more.
[00:28:31] Speaker B: But tell me your story. But we will take recommendations. Tell us about cool people. It's almost. It's very similar to sort of, you know, the bisbeat series in which we try to highlight local businesses in the area, particularly ones that, you know, are just opening or been around a while.
[00:28:49] Speaker A: That who's got a good story.
[00:28:51] Speaker B: Yeah. And business professionals as well.
[00:28:53] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:28:54] Speaker B: Something we try to highlight, too.
[00:28:55] Speaker A: So that'll be part of. Part of both. So depending on what it is. I'm a big theme guy.
Had some great conversations for as we kick this off during Black History Month and now we're in National Women's Month. Women in History Month. We got some things. And then coming off our Covid series, I had the opportunity to finally meet someone who was very active during COVID but in a different realm than they worked. But Impacted so many people. And that is Steve Derrick out of Clifton Park. So Steve has a great story because for 20 plus years he's not only been a video game developer, so he's worked for the big names Activision, Activision Blizzard, and now he works under the Microsoft Xbox team branding. He's not in game development anymore, but during COVID he was sketching healthcare workers, frontline people.
So as we talked about with Andrew, where were you five years ago? And things like that. So we talked about, you know, my wife Rita, working at Saratoga Hospital and being on the ICU unit. So this is one of those situations where it comes full circle because I had a chance to meet Steve and go to his studio and talk about it. And the reason why I know Steve so well is because of a portrait he did of my wife Rita that he did send to her. And it was very early on he talks about in the podcast where it was just Rita in her cap and mask, pink mask, of course, and her glasses and her eyes. And again, he talks about how these photos were submitted to him through Instagram. And it was something he did. And he looked at it and goes, oh, this was an early one. When he first started, it was just eyes. And then he branched out to show the facial expression and as he called it, the bruising, the marks from the mask and things like that. So he was absolutely wonderful. So he's my guest this week on Tell Me youe Story Again, also available for free on all your podcast platforms. And he was absolutely wonderful. And his dogs. One dog liked me, the other one didn't bark the entire time. So they're in the background, but not, but not too bad. So that was like, kind of like my news, but good news for this week. So what do you got coming up for good? What do you got? Good news wise, I wasn't prepared for that.
You gotta drag Shannon, you have anything for good news?
[00:31:24] Speaker B: Good news. What do we got?
[00:31:26] Speaker A: St. Patrick's Day is Tuesday.
[00:31:28] Speaker B: Yes, I am Irish, so that'll, you know. Okay. But the sad news about that is I never made it home this year for Green Bear in Syracuse. If you're, if you're Syracuse born and bred, you know, Green Bear Sunday, there's a big old day in Syracuse.
[00:31:44] Speaker A: So where you at in Green Beer?
[00:31:46] Speaker B: Well, I don't like Bear generally, but Green Bear is like, it's like a. It's an Irish tradition. And the very prominently Irish neighborhood in Syracuse, Tip Hill.
And you know, the Shamrock Run, it's another thing, you know, I'll probably go to stores and get one of their Shamrock shake drinks on St Patrick's Day, because it's kind of. It's my thing. And probably be wearing my squats and Shenanigans shirt to the gym.
[00:32:15] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:32:16] Speaker B: Probably have to make that a leg day.
[00:32:19] Speaker A: Tuesday's gonna be a leg day.
[00:32:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:21] Speaker A: Okay. Just for you. Keeping track. You want to work out with Shen.
[00:32:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:25] Speaker A: Just send an email to Stan and Shenmail to get Shen's workout schedule. She can help you, too, get in shape for the upcoming.
[00:32:34] Speaker B: Listen, I'm excited because I actually bought green leggings recently and, like, deep green. So I'll have a. I'll be on full green that day. Yeah. Yeah. And I've got. I got a green blazer, so we might have to pull that out for the office.
[00:32:47] Speaker A: And we know Miles has one.
We call it the master's blazer.
[00:32:51] Speaker B: That's a. It's a shade of green.
[00:32:53] Speaker A: It's a shade of green. It's a shade of green.
[00:32:55] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:55] Speaker A: And we've got. And then Saturday, I'll be at the St. Patty's crawl down out in Our friends out west in Amsterdam.
[00:33:03] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:33:04] Speaker A: Checking out the. The people there.
[00:33:06] Speaker B: Just a reminder, if you're going to drink, please have a safe ride home.
[00:33:09] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:33:10] Speaker B: I'm gonna mother everybody on that one. Oh, so not. Not good news. Just, apparently this is my hot take there. We're coming up with too many words lately. Too many words are going viral and I can't keep up with them. And this is gonna sound like the most millennial. Like, oh, my God, she's old. Karen. Oh, stuff I'm not. Millennials are old, apparently so. Because you know what's out. You know what word is out? Slay. Sleigh is not in anymore. Someone just told me that in the office. So I need someone to please email us and let us know.
[00:33:41] Speaker A: Stan and shensho Gmail.com is slay still.
[00:33:44] Speaker B: We still saying that?
Because now it's like they're eating to talk about, like, someone's, like, fabulous. Which I don't even think we're saying fabulous anymore. I can't keep up. I feel like on a weekly basis, I have to get on TikTok and be like, what slang is in to keep it with the kids.
[00:34:03] Speaker A: See, I stayed away from slay. I've used Crushed. Crush is like my go to when I see these high school musicals.
[00:34:09] Speaker B: Okay, well, I slay.
[00:34:10] Speaker A: I kind of stay away from.
[00:34:11] Speaker B: I grew up in the it's lit category.
[00:34:13] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:34:14] Speaker B: And that we can't say that anymore, either. Okay.
[00:34:16] Speaker A: No lit.
[00:34:17] Speaker B: You can't say it's lit. And there's just. There's too many. And I know that I'm not old enough to be saying things like this, but here I am.
Because there's too many. See?
[00:34:29] Speaker A: But I think. But I think there's something to be said for some of the older words, like, I'll see someone and I'll see someone in outfit. Our friend Hayley Vaccaro.
I said she looks smashing, you know, when I saw her. Speaking of which. Okay.
[00:34:44] Speaker B: We can tell your age by that. Okay. Again, but that's okay, apparently. If I say it's lit.
[00:34:49] Speaker A: If I say so for your outfit for Belmont. If I say, like, tomorrow. Like, we're planning outfits for tomorrow. If I say you look smashing, what are you gonna say? Why, thank you, Steve.
[00:34:58] Speaker B: I'm say thank you. But you also can't say it looks fire, even though that would work for the Phoenix game, because fire is also.
I think we're done. So you can't say fire. Can't say slay. I don't know what I think.
[00:35:09] Speaker A: You're eating my hot. Okay, we're going to close out with my hot take.
So we had the conversation, and again, we've had this conversation before. Are you.
Again, 35 years married, so take it with a grain of salt, guys. Are you a Michael Kors girl or a Coach girl when it comes to the purses?
[00:35:29] Speaker B: So I have a Michael Kors, but I'll go anyway.
[00:35:32] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:35:33] Speaker B: I have. I'm a. I'm a middle person. I like if it's got a good price and a good look.
[00:35:37] Speaker A: All right, so we know my wife, Rita. And you know this. Well, yes, Coach.
[00:35:41] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:35:41] Speaker A: That is it. I do know that from age 50 on her first coach, I've sent a.
[00:35:46] Speaker B: Couple over her way.
[00:35:47] Speaker A: So the one you sent over recently, the cherries.
[00:35:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:50] Speaker A: Our friend, friend of the podcast friend for many years, Benita Zahn.
[00:35:53] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:35:54] Speaker A: Comes strolling into the media room, and guess what she has on her shoulder.
[00:35:58] Speaker B: She has it. And Rita lost her mind.
[00:36:00] Speaker A: I went, bonita, what are you doing to me? Rita turned over and her eyes, like Neil diamond himself could, like, walked out, walked into the room. Seeing that Coach bag in real life and all its luster, it's white with cherries on it. It's a great theme this year. I thought she was going to tackle Bonita and take the damn thing.
[00:36:21] Speaker B: Is this a hot take or is this just a.
[00:36:23] Speaker A: This is just no help.
[00:36:25] Speaker B: I don't know that this is a hot take.
[00:36:28] Speaker A: This is no help.
[00:36:29] Speaker B: This would only be a hot take.
[00:36:30] Speaker A: This is no help.
[00:36:31] Speaker B: Was Michael Kors versus Coach. But I'm just. I'm just saying there's no winning among.
[00:36:37] Speaker A: Among.
[00:36:38] Speaker B: I'm gonna tell you to buy it.
[00:36:39] Speaker A: So you told me to buy it when we first saw it.
[00:36:41] Speaker B: Yeah, I.
[00:36:42] Speaker A: Even now I'm obligated because she's seen it live.
[00:36:44] Speaker B: In fact, I didn't just tell you to buy it. I told you to get the large and the small chance to have options.
[00:36:50] Speaker A: I'm gonna try to go with just.
[00:36:51] Speaker B: The large anyways, folks. All right, that's this week's podcast.
[00:36:55] Speaker A: That's this week. Next week.
[00:36:57] Speaker B: Please let me know about words. What are we using?
[00:37:00] Speaker A: What do we saymail.com.
[00:37:02] Speaker B: What are we saying?
[00:37:04] Speaker A: We need the word of the week.
[00:37:06] Speaker B: Yeah, we need a. We need a. I might come up with a trendy word of the week and we're going to learn. We're going to learn together. Trendy word. I'm going to go what. What I'm going to do is I'm going to go on tick tock. I'm going to look up what words are we saying now? What's laying over.
[00:37:19] Speaker A: So you do that before at 12:30 before we do the podcast at 1, hopefully. Okay.
[00:37:24] Speaker B: We'll see how this goes. If I remember. But Sleigh is out.
[00:37:28] Speaker A: Sleigh is out. But we're in.
[00:37:30] Speaker B: But we're in.
[00:37:31] Speaker A: Facebook Live tomorrow night.
[00:37:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:37:33] Speaker A: From. From Armory Studios, New York for the New York Phoenix vs. Patroon. So nothing big on free agency with the bills.
[00:37:43] Speaker B: I get to bring in. My Good evening, Schenectady.
We're live from Armory Studios.
[00:37:51] Speaker A: Look forward to that Daily Gazette on Facebook tomorrow. Facebook Live, Stan and Shen show. We'll be there.
[00:37:57] Speaker B: Catch Mike McAdams follow up.
[00:38:00] Speaker A: Yep. Mike McAdam will have a there. We'll be online. We'll have photos going up online. We'll be doing at least one or two Facebook lives and then we'll do some interviews.
So recorded interview with some people there. It'll be interesting. The kids turn out on Thursday night, but I think it's such a big game. Yeah, I think they want to be there. I mean, it's a 7:00 start, so it's not horrible. So I mean, they may, you know, ditch at halftime. I can understand that. Get the kids home, but.
[00:38:24] Speaker B: All right, Stan, it's time to wrap this up.
[00:38:26] Speaker A: All right. For Stan and Shen. Goodbye. Say goodbye.
[00:38:29] Speaker B: Bye.
