[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hi, I'm Stan. [00:00:02] Speaker B: And I'm Shen. [00:00:03] Speaker A: And each week we bring you the Stan and Shen Show. And each week we talk about fun things through our travels throughout the capital region. We touch on food, we touch on news, try to touch heavily on good news. [00:00:29] Speaker A: Hot enough for you, like, outside? Yeah, no, I don't think the office is hot. [00:00:35] Speaker B: No, it's. It's the tundra in here. You go into, like, the break area. [00:00:41] Speaker A: Oh, I love that. [00:00:42] Speaker B: Bring your winter coat. [00:00:43] Speaker A: That was great. I was so happy with that. [00:00:46] Speaker B: Well, you've been out in a car with no ac, so I don't know how you're living right now. [00:00:50] Speaker A: So there's a GoFundMe for a new compressor. Stan and Shen, gmail.com Feel free to send funds. That way Rita's hair doesn't have to get messed up. And you can ride with me. [00:01:01] Speaker B: Yeah, because I really don't like this. I'm driving. I think we're allowed to say. [00:01:06] Speaker A: Yeah, you can. That one you can say it's not the F word. So just so you know, how much work went in today? Because we moved the podcast still on Wednesday, but we moved it to later time. For those of you also on videos, I'll get my Gatorade out of the way like an idiot. [00:01:23] Speaker B: No, it's not sponsored. They do not sponsor this podcast. [00:01:26] Speaker A: Nope. We'll take Dee. Crescenti can jump on at any time. Do you know what it took for me? I had to move our guest today because all the stuff we had going on. [00:01:35] Speaker B: Who is our guest? [00:01:37] Speaker A: I'm glad you asked. [00:01:39] Speaker B: Where are they gonna sit? [00:01:43] Speaker A: We'll pause and then I'll move everything around. [00:01:47] Speaker B: So is it Indiana Nash? [00:01:50] Speaker A: Close. [00:01:51] Speaker B: You can be close to Indiana Nash. You can either be Indiana Nash or you cannot. [00:01:56] Speaker A: Family oriented. Family adjacent. Daily Gazette newspaper. Family adjacent Amera. The Stan and Shen show would officially like to introduce the new business editor of the Daily Gazette family of newspapers, my co host. [00:02:12] Speaker B: Wait, I can't be that special guest. [00:02:15] Speaker A: You all. Yes. This is news. This is news. You are the new business editor. [00:02:20] Speaker B: You didn't run this by me. [00:02:22] Speaker A: Well, how many things do I really want to buy you when we do this? [00:02:24] Speaker B: Not how we do business. [00:02:28] Speaker A: This is a big biz brief right now, so it's not made publication yet. It should be coming out shortly. But Shenandoah has been. [00:02:36] Speaker B: Oh, you just mispronounced my name. Come on. [00:02:38] Speaker A: Shenandoah has been. That's why we go by Shen has been elevated, promoted, given more job opportunities to become the business editor. [00:02:50] Speaker B: About to do work about to do. [00:02:52] Speaker A: More work for the Daily Gazette family newspaper. So congratulations. [00:02:54] Speaker B: Thank you. Thank you. Yes. [00:02:56] Speaker A: What's it mean? What's this new what's what's the be now mean for you? [00:03:03] Speaker B: So I officially take, I continue doing our buy. Well, it's supposed to be every two week business series bizbeat, as you notice that it will occasionally change depending on things, but that continues to be a staple of this and is particularly a reason I was actually able to get this position. So shout out to former editor Mike Kelly for going along with that crazy idea from the very get go and also coming up with a great name for it because without him there would be no business editor. So shout out to him. Big props on that. And then I take over also. Big announcement. Indiana Nash is departing as our life and arts editor and senior writer. Super sad to see her go. She is my desk buddy and my friend in the office and her daughter and I also happen to share a birthday. So really sad. But she has a great opportunity working for the Rockefeller Institute at UAlbany and their public relations department. So her job duties have sort of been split between people and I will be taking over the work that she does on some of our bigger sections as well. And that includes planning, writing and executing that with a great team here that we have and a great staff that includes editor Miles Reed and editor Andrew Puglis and then John Thorpe, who lays out our papers and always does great work with those and has won us numerous awards for the way he designs our special sections. So that will be our outlook series about businesses that happens in early winter, I believe it's like February or March and then our fall food section and going hand in hand with food. I will also be taking over bite size which if everyone is aware, Indiana does and really, you know, focusing on our, on our restaurants and what's happening with them and what's happening with food locally. I am also, I feel like I'm keep saying I am also because there is a lot to this job doing daily business coverage and that include anything from labor union disputes to new businesses opening up to businesses selling and then larger trend business stories. So, you know, obviously big things in our area that we'll be looking at cannabis and the impact of that, you know, any sort of economic impact trend that we can see or find, we'll be talking about down the road, global foundries, you know, chip manufacturing, sort of the expansion of that. So there's a lot to cover in this because if you think about it, business is sort of everything and so there's a lot of different avenues that I'll be taking on. It is a big role to fill and bite sized is some big shoes, although it's called bite size, some big shoes to fill. You know, Indiana has done a great job with that and so I've been working with her over the last couple days to sort of take down some notes of how she found things which what she included, that sort of stuff. Great time to let everybody know if you have businesses in your area, got business profiles, interesting people doing interesting things or unique things or starting new businesses or you know, a business is selling or you know, things happening at restaurants, reach out to us. We're expanding how we do and like how we write and cover those things as well. That'll be coming. You know, I'll be doing a bit of a dual role in the, in the immediate time, still covering Southern Saratoga until we backfill my role, which fingers crossed, the person I, I, I have suggested to take it will take it. [00:06:53] Speaker A: Team effort, team effort on this move. Yes, we've been recruiting. [00:06:58] Speaker B: Yes, we, we have chess pieces that we are trying to make moves with and so hopefully, you know, that will help if we can get the person we're hoping to get that will, you know, that, you know, immediately switch over and will be very, almost seamless. But yeah, so if you have anything going on with businesses, business related, email me. S B R I E R E Daily Gazette g a z e2t's e.netnot.com to please don't put dot com. It won't get to me. Or you can always send it to newsaily gazette.net too and it will get forwarded on to me. So yeah, just you. Thanks to everyone for the support and looking forward to the job and sort of changing this role. I've covered, I think pretty much every beat there is in a newspaper at this point, except for sports. Although if you count horse racing. [00:07:58] Speaker A: What's that in there? So with this move, there's sad news, good news and bad news. So the sad news is we lose Indiana Nash, who is just one of the sweetest people. [00:08:10] Speaker B: That's not even that I Sad is not even the right word. [00:08:13] Speaker A: It's a gut punch. Yeah, it's when I got the news, I was so mad Are you telling me she. [00:08:18] Speaker B: She texted me. She goes, hey, are you going to be in? And I'm already on my way in. And I said, yeah, I'm on my way in now. Like, what's going on? And she goes, oh, I just, you know, basically was like, I have to. I just got to talk to you about that. And I was like, you're leaving? And then she just sent back like a crying emoji. And I was like, in my car and I was having. First of all, I was having such a good morning. And then it just quickly went downhill. [00:08:40] Speaker A: So I had time before you got the news. [00:08:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:08:43] Speaker A: And I was already. I had. Going through the stages of grief emotionally. Because Indiana's such a special person to all of us. [00:08:50] Speaker B: Yes. She is just absolutely the nicest person you could ever work with and. Or meet in this office. Talent. Yes. Yeah. [00:08:58] Speaker A: Just. I mean, everything makes sense. And then the selfish column gets lots of check marks. [00:09:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:09:05] Speaker A: So that's the only reason why, you know, that's the bad of it. [00:09:09] Speaker B: I'm going to miss her going along with my crazy antics. I'm going to miss our walks. We went on lots of walks. If you ever saw any of us walking around the parking lot, it was usually Indiana, Chad and I, and Amera, you know, she wasn't doing. Pages would hop in there. Tyler, when he used to work here. And we've had a lot of change and, you know, I think it's. You get a little used to it until it's like someone who's been here for a while and, like, that's, like, really hard. So Indiana's been here for nine years. But not to mention that, you know, I have spent almost half the time she's been here. I have also worked here. And I didn't realize that until, like, now because I've been here for almost five years and she's been here for over nine, almost 10. So, like, we've known each other for quite a long time now. I mean, part of that, you know, she did spend on maternity leave, but, like, I also have, like, a very just personal connection, you know, with the fact that her daughter and I share a birthday fable. And, you know, we really, you know, got to know each other better over that. And then sitting next to each other in our. Our origami crane wall that we have that Amera creates for us. And I told her she can take one to a new office. But anyway, so. [00:10:17] Speaker A: So the good news was also duties are now shifted and now shared with our dear friend. Friend of the podcast. [00:10:27] Speaker B: Correct. [00:10:27] Speaker A: True, true friend of the podcast. [00:10:29] Speaker B: Correct. Although I don't think she's been on yet. [00:10:32] Speaker A: She's very podcast averse. So she may not. [00:10:35] Speaker B: We may have to. [00:10:37] Speaker A: We may. We'll try to sneak her in. But I refer to as love. I refer to as my support human in the. In the office is Ameri Deitch. [00:10:46] Speaker B: And no, she's also my support human in the office. No, no, we sat across from each other. [00:10:56] Speaker A: It's there Judy. It's. She's my sole one. You have a team, so just let her be mine. So she's gonna take over as Sunday Life and Arts editor. So it's a great thing for her. [00:11:08] Speaker B: A very seamless transition. [00:11:10] Speaker A: Absolutely. Running Nippertown and Life and Arts. This is, you know, everything is shared. It's all under her gate. [00:11:16] Speaker B: She'll also take on some of the editing responsibilities that Indiana was covering along with Steven Cheslick in our office, who's one of our page designers and editors here. So they'll be taking over. I don't think people realize just how much Indiana actually did. When you break it down, it's like to have someone just take over. Jess, her role was going to be exceptionally difficult because she's just sort of over the years just accumulated those responsibilities. [00:11:44] Speaker A: And speaking of hardworking, best wishes to our boss. Not immediate boss. Miles Reed celebrates 30 years with the Gazette. Just came across my LinkedIn yesterday. Wow, 30 years. That's like three careers. [00:12:02] Speaker B: Miles has been here as long as I've been alive. Plus two. I always joke with. He knows this because his wife got, I think they got married or engaged the year I was born. So he's been married almost as long as he's worked here too. And it's always like. That's how I remember how long he's been here for because of sort of. [00:12:21] Speaker A: That you have that number thing. Like. Yeah, like Devin and myself and Rita, we have, you know, the age and the anniversary matches up. [00:12:29] Speaker B: There's one more person we forgot to shout out, which is Ashley Onion, who is taking over an editor role in Mohawk Valley. Correct. For the Recorder and partially, I think, Fallen county as well too. So she's gonna help navigate the Recorder and the Leader Herald in that territory out there and provide better insight into sort of where those papers are heading in the future. Which is great since she has been a one woman show out there a lot of times. [00:12:59] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. So the addition of Eden in Fulton county. So you have those singular bodies, but now. [00:13:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:13:05] Speaker A: And Ashley comes from the Gloversville Area. She worked at Leader Herald and then added on here to the recorder. So we can't have a promotion without gifts and we can't have gifts every week. Just so don't get used to this. [00:13:20] Speaker B: This has been too many gifts. [00:13:21] Speaker A: You're not getting a mug. Oh, your name's already on the mug. [00:13:25] Speaker B: That's upsetting. I was really hoping it was a mug. [00:13:27] Speaker A: No, you're not getting a mug. I was really excited since there's going to be more stress with a new job. [00:13:33] Speaker B: It's another. The stress ball. Yes, we're positive health harm reductions. [00:13:40] Speaker A: So it was kind of fitting. So whenever I go to these trade shows where I'm at things on the weekend assignments and I see stress balls, I'm like, oh, I get that for Shen. [00:13:48] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:13:48] Speaker A: And that goes in the pocket. [00:13:49] Speaker B: I have many stress items at my desk. [00:13:52] Speaker A: So I have. I have another gift. [00:13:54] Speaker B: Okay. [00:13:55] Speaker A: I've had for met for months actually, because I got it and I said, she's gonna have one of those days or a week where she needs this. And I'm like, I'm. And we'd hold off, hold off. We had other gifts and things like that. So because you were buying a new planner, Shen writes everything down. I said about being electronic, like, no, no, I like writing it down. I was like, oh, okay. So this has to happen. [00:14:23] Speaker B: Swifty, sticky notes. Oh, I gotta see this. These might never get used. [00:14:30] Speaker A: So it is a 12 pack. [00:14:32] Speaker B: I need a crane in every single one of these. This is the first thing that's happening, cuz. Okay, so people don't know this, but I have paper cranes on my desk that a mirror makes because I have no idea how to make them. And we just use random pieces of paper we find. But a lot of times it's the different sticky notes that I pick up. Cause I use a lot of sticky notes. Oh my God, these are going to be great. So I don't even want to use them now. [00:14:54] Speaker A: So these are Taylor Swift specific, representing the multiple albums. [00:15:01] Speaker B: I'm going to have to keep one of every single two of every single one just so that I have them just. Just to have. Oh, it would make a good collage. My art, mine. [00:15:10] Speaker A: And this is where we lose shed. [00:15:12] Speaker B: My art mine just went places. These might be doodle pads more than notepads. Might be doodling on these. Anyways, that's an art term right there. Doodling. You're welcome. Anyways, thank you, Stan. This is so nice. Oh my God. Where did you find these? [00:15:29] Speaker A: TikTok shop. [00:15:32] Speaker B: All Right. [00:15:32] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:15:33] Speaker B: Oh, TikTok. [00:15:34] Speaker A: So much for doom scrolling. It's, it's expensive for scrolling. Scrolling on. And needless to say, there's another batch that's got to get ordered for somebody for the. For hoho. Yeah, without a doubt. [00:15:46] Speaker B: Oh my God. Yes. [00:15:47] Speaker A: So yeah, I, I, I think it's. [00:15:48] Speaker B: More like two people there in that household. [00:15:50] Speaker A: So that's. Wow. No, it be. It'd be three. I would be. [00:15:54] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:55] Speaker A: Well, two big big little. [00:15:57] Speaker B: And you might want to do back to school for two. [00:16:00] Speaker A: Yeah. And then save one for ho ho. Okay, we'll do that. So we talked about the heat. That's a thousand. So you're welcome for your gifts. [00:16:10] Speaker B: Oh, thank you. [00:16:11] Speaker A: You're welcome. Summer camp, the heat Amsterdams do a lot of great things. I think Kate did a story or Ashley did a story about some camps out in Amsterdam, which is a great thing. And that brings me to ask you about your summer camp experience. [00:16:27] Speaker B: I didn't know you were going to bring this up. Which camp? [00:16:33] Speaker A: What, what's the camp you always talk about every time? [00:16:36] Speaker B: Well, I've talked about both. What's the big one this week I actually brought up science camp. Yeah, I got, I was selected. You would be selected for the science camp. Not just anybody could go. Your teacher had to select you and you had to get in. And I actually, it's, it's funny because I didn't know this until years later when I entered high school. I met a girl who was friends with me at science camp. And then what made it even more weird was when I spent a semester, my first semester of college, I actually went to LeMoyne. Even though I talk about Oswego highly. I went to LeMoyne for one semester. Her mom ended up being my professor at Le Moyne too. It was very funny. But anyway, so I went to science camp. It was through Bristenwire Squibb and I. I remember an emergency room department visit. I remember a kid hearing a story about a kid who got the hold of brain and threw up. We went to the zoo. We got the free feed. The it's not the llama. It might be the llamas. We got to feed an animal. Got to go in the back. Got to have a race to see whose animal could get to their popsicle treat first. We won, of course. And then I re. My favorite part of that was at the end, the very last day, we got to go tour Bristol Myers Squib. And then we got to have an all you can eat lunch. But that Wasn't even the best part. It was the make your own ice cream sundae. And I mean that everything. It's great. But the camp you're talking about that you love to make fun of me for was I. I was forced to. [00:18:03] Speaker A: Go to and wear the time and time again. [00:18:06] Speaker B: Yeah. Three years in a row with plaid shirts and the Met. Oh, the pink pastel plaid or the pink and purple pastel plaid shorts and the matching shirt. [00:18:18] Speaker A: And what camp was that? [00:18:19] Speaker B: I was golf camp. [00:18:21] Speaker A: Three years. [00:18:22] Speaker B: Correct. I've not played golf since. I just want to note that I might be traumatized. Cannot watch golf. Cannot stand to watch golf on the tv. [00:18:31] Speaker A: Can you swing the sticks? [00:18:33] Speaker B: It's been a long time, so I. I'm probably, you know, very rough at it. I will say, though, I think if I got back out there and. And practice driving again, I could definitely hit it a lot harder and farther just because I have upper body strength. Now, my long game, as you will say, so teeing off, I was not the best at. But my. Yeah, my short game, when we got to the green, I was phenomenal. Phenomenal at that. I've actually played the Shenandoah Golf Course. Fun fact. I also met women PGA and men PGA players. And I'm probably going to butcher his name, but the. The first Native American PGA player. Player. Notably gay. Yep. Met him one time. Actually helped me with my swing inside the dome up at the turning stone. The dome where you get to drive. It's great. It's shaped like a golf ball. It's like half a golf ball. Anyway, so. [00:19:29] Speaker A: So with that being said, there's a challenge. Bisher. [00:19:33] Speaker B: Oh, God. [00:19:33] Speaker A: For Stan and Shen. [00:19:36] Speaker B: Please don't put us on a golf course. I have not played in so long. [00:19:40] Speaker A: So would you like to go to the bunker? [00:19:45] Speaker B: Oh, Jesus. The first time I was ever there, I was with Tedisco. And let me just tell you, this is how out of practice I am. Also, I think I'm just nervous that you're, like, hitting a golf ball and it's not going anywhere except into a wall that I, like, missed the first swing. Like, we'll totally admit to that in front of Tedisco. Senator Jim Tedisco. And, you know, first of all, I wasn't dressed for the occasion. Pretty sure I was wearing heels when I was trying to do this, but it was just a matter of the point. It's like, wow, I'm so out of practice. Like, you got to figure I was in, like, middle school, high school, or early high school years. When I did this, a lot of time has passed. [00:20:20] Speaker A: So at the bunker with the trackman system, that's, you know, you're swinging into the screen. [00:20:27] Speaker B: Yeah. You have to like. I don't know, I get nervous. I'm like your screen. [00:20:31] Speaker A: So the other option is we can go to Northway 8. We know Northway Golf center. And they have the top tracer range. So we're outside and we're actually physically hitting golf balls. And it tracks. [00:20:44] Speaker B: Okay, that might. [00:20:45] Speaker A: And there's games you can play on the screen. It's pretty awesome. [00:20:50] Speaker B: Okay. [00:20:51] Speaker A: So like, they put like certain rings out, like, where you want to Maybe. [00:20:54] Speaker B: I'm a little nervous. [00:20:56] Speaker A: You still have your clubs? [00:20:57] Speaker B: No. [00:20:57] Speaker A: Okay. [00:20:58] Speaker B: No, but I. And it sucks because they were really nice clubs too. We actually got free clubs at the end of this golf camp delivered by Billy Facilo himself and his son. And I had a very special pair because they were the only set that were breast cancer awareness ones. So they were people left. [00:21:19] Speaker A: Are you left off the tee or right? Off the tee. [00:21:23] Speaker B: Is this left? [00:21:23] Speaker A: There we go. [00:21:25] Speaker B: Is this left? I think I play like this. [00:21:30] Speaker A: Okay. So you're. You're right off the top. [00:21:31] Speaker B: Yeah. Which is weird. Even though I'm left handed. [00:21:33] Speaker A: But I mean, my God says the same way. He's a lefty, but he tease. He tees off. [00:21:36] Speaker B: Right. Yeah. My understanding is because we live in a right dominant world, a lot of the. Well, yeah, but also just because, like, that's the significant number of people you're around most of the time. So you probably take up from that. Although at one point I think that we were. I was doing both at golf camp, or at least my short game was both at golf camp. Like, I would putt. It's handy. Yeah. [00:21:59] Speaker A: Stuck behind a tree like I do. [00:22:02] Speaker B: Yeah. So, I mean. [00:22:04] Speaker A: All right. [00:22:04] Speaker B: It's been a long time, though. [00:22:06] Speaker A: So one last surprise. [00:22:08] Speaker B: Oh, goodness. [00:22:09] Speaker A: I said we were gonna have a tasting today. [00:22:11] Speaker B: Oh, what's the tasting? I'm excited for that. I knew I was the new Selena Coma's Oreo cookies. I knew it. [00:22:19] Speaker A: Non sponsored. The Selena gets Selena Gomez Oreos. Selena's chocolate and cinnamon cream cookies. [00:22:28] Speaker B: I knew it was going to be that. I knew it. I said that earlier, did I not? I called that. I did. [00:22:33] Speaker A: I did. I'm like, how did she. [00:22:36] Speaker B: That's why they've been everywhere. [00:22:37] Speaker A: Well, I had to go to the house because I didn't want them to melt in the car. [00:22:40] Speaker B: Yeah, they've been everywhere. All right, here we go. I'm Ready? [00:22:45] Speaker A: Ladies first. So truly a bite sized tasting. She's going right in. [00:22:53] Speaker B: Oh, good. Oh, wow. I like that. [00:22:58] Speaker A: What do you like about it? [00:22:59] Speaker B: You ever. Graham crackers. That's what the center tastes like. And then a chocolate cookie. But it's very like you're eating graham crackers. [00:23:10] Speaker A: Yeah, but it's got to be. And again, my favorite graham crackers are the cinnamon ones with the cinnamon sugar on. Besides just the regular graham cracker like you use, like for cheesecake and stuff like that. That you got to have that sugar in there.
